國王手下的年輕貴族 Jacquesde Bergeron于1720年5月30日在 Saint-Julien de Reignac 教堂裡迎娶了葡萄園的女繼承人Marie Dejean。祖籍貝阿恩的活躍商人Bertrand Ducru 經營著自己的貿易公司，後於1797年收購了莊園。而 Beaucaillou 解作美麗的石頭，酒莊名稱就是由創園莊主名稱加上園內特色而成Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou。他對梅多克酒的熱愛之情促使他為酒窖和葡萄園投入了大量的人力和物力，在 1855 年分級的激烈競爭中，寶嘉龍表現出色，被列為波爾多的二級名莊。
幾經易手，1942年，Francis Borie 以終身租賃的方式從 Fernand Odon Desbarats de Burke 手中接管寶嘉龍。家族在波爾多還有 Grand Puy Lascote和Haut Batailley 酒莊。Jean-Eugène 子承父業，為葡萄園和酒窖展開細緻的重修工程。致使寶嘉龍的聲譽在此段時期上升到波爾多的頂峰水準。酒莊由1953開始就聘用了被譽為偉大的釀酒師之一 Emile Peynaud作酒莊顧問。1998年，在著名葡萄酒評論家Robert Parker對波爾多名莊的分級中，寶嘉龍和拉菲、拉圖等並列一級酒莊，自此酒莊也得到了一個非官方的「超二級莊」頭銜。而寶嘉龍正牌算是最後一批將葡萄酒置於100%新桶中陳釀18個月的酒莊之一，從而令酒體得以保持50年乃至更長的陳釀能力，即是短時間的內都未到時候享用，而 La Croixde Beaucaillou (副牌)，從1995年開始在莊園裝瓶，之前會以散裝賣給波爾多酒商。根據年份來決定20%~40%的新木桶陳釀，熟成時間為12個月，而現時新年份副牌酒已改為黑色酒標。

Rich and silky in texture, there's some lovely cinnamon and black pepper spice here, with lovely grip from the very fine tannins and good drive too. It's extremely precise, with every piece inits place, a considered and drawn out style featuring notes of menthol and bitter dark chocolate. It's really bedding in for the long haul. It shows that even the second wines can be powerful and concentrated in 2016.

Pristine, attractive fruit with perfume and freshness. Dark-berry and plum notes, as well as cassis and bramble berries,define the character of both nose and palate. While the top wine gets all the attention,the second wine 2016 La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou is well worth seeking out and unquestionably shows some of the class and purity of the grand vin. A more forward, fleshy wine with oodles of black raspberries, cassis, and floral hints, it’s a total charmer with its fine, supple tannins and great finish. A blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot, aged 12 months in 60% new barrels, drink it any time over the coming 15-20 years.

Almost opaque in color, the 2016 La CroixDucru-Beaucaillou has a tightly wound, quite pixelated bouquet of black cherries, melted tar and humidor aromas that only gradually unfold. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, perfectly judged acidity, a silky-smooth texture and a pure, sustained finish that is adorable. This is a pretty Saint Julien, equal to many of the Grand Vins.

I love the aromas of minerals, flowers,blackberries and blueberries. Full body with a fabulous texture of polished and integrated tannins. It goes on for minutes. Spicy, subtle fruit and a long and marvelous finish. Currant bush undertones. A whole and beautiful wine.

No longer a second wine of Ducru-Beaucaillou, but a wine from its own separate vineyard, Croix de Beaucaillou is impressive. Firm while also rich, it is firmly tannic, super ripe and packed with great dark plum and berry fruits. Fruit and structure well balanced together.

Coming from a totally separate vineyard,this blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot sports a dramatic label designed by Jade Jagger, the daughter of rock legend Mick. The wine is richly fruity, lush, fleshy, very flamboyant, and seems to have more in common with the 2009 vintage than the more structured, backward and restrained 2010s. The wine is medium to full-bodied, luscious and best drunk over the next 10-15 years.

A clear step up in richness, polish and texture. 80% new oak at this point. In these kind of vintages though, it is noteworthy that you have to climb this high to really be assured of getting a bottle that impresses and that lives up to the expectations of the appellation and château. Lovely damson fruits here. Will be ready to drink earlier than the monumental 2016, but you are getting a slick, well defined wine with plenty of great fruit. There is an austerity at this point, in that you feel the tannins closing in towards the finish, but this is the one I would happily recommend.
