背景

Chapoutier家族可以追溯他們在隆河的歷史到1808年，但直到1879年 Polydor Chapoutier才購買了他的第一個葡萄園並開始了實際的業務。在20世紀中葉，Max Chapoutier 領導這家公司，直到1977年退休，之後他的兒子Michel Chapoutier和 Marc Chapoutier接管了公司。幾年後，在1980年代，在Michel Chapoutier 領導下的葡萄園和釀酒設施的質量得到了提升。到1980年代後期，Chapoutier的葡萄酒品質開始受到國際關注。目前家族擁有 26公頃的Hermitage葡萄園，另有跟親戚租用耕作的5.5公頃，共計31.5公頃（整個Hermitage也只不過約130公頃）。Chapoutier 家族是知名大型酒商，每年總產量達600萬瓶，除購入葡萄農的葡萄釀酒之外，自家也擁有廣大葡萄園，且範圍早已超出南北隆河之外。在世界各地皆有葡萄園，包括 Alsace , Australia, Languedoc-Roussillon and Portugal 等。產品項目令人目不暇給，初、中、高階酒款齊備。

Chapoutier家族的葡萄園遍及隆河谷到教皇新堡各個產區，擁有多個優質葡萄園，種植的主要葡萄品種有：西拉（Syrah）、歌海娜（Grenache）、瑪珊（Marsanne）、瑚珊（Roussanne）等。酒莊奉行“單品種”（即完全只用單一品種釀制葡萄酒），比如， Cote-Rotie 葡萄酒用的全是西拉， Hermitage 白葡萄酒用的全部是瑪珊。

從1991年開始就採用生物動力耕種和釀造方法，目的是釀造最純淨，最接近天然風土條件的葡萄酒。葡萄栽培和釀制過程的每一個決定、每一個步驟都是為了增加葡萄酒的風土條件、品種和年份特性。該酒莊發酵時只採用野生酵母，並且在小橡木桶中釀制，酒莊最優質的紅葡萄酒和白葡萄酒在裝瓶前不再進行澄清和過濾。教皇新堡（Chateauneuf-du-Pape Barbe Rac）葡萄酒全部用的是歌海娜 Grenache 品種釀成，由於客易被氧化，採用水泥槽發酵。土質複雜但多數有大型鵝卵石覆蓋。採收時已經在園中嚴選優質葡萄。發酵加上浸皮時間約3星期，後來約有12 個月在槽中的熟成時間。非常有個性。

酒Robert Parker 評論此酒長達50秒餘韻 : 「The deep ruby/purple-colored 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape Barbe Rac boast a fabulous perfume of kirsch liqueur,licorice, ground pepper, and a hint of Provencal herbs. Ripe, full-bodied, and concentrated, with huge quantities of glycerin as well as a finish that lasts for nearly 50 seconds.」

The 1998, which comes from a parcel of Grenache vines planted in 1901 in the western sector of the appellation. A dark plum/purple color is accompanied by a smoky, kirsch, roasted meat, and saddle leather-scented bouquet. The wine took a full year to ferment dry. The result is a blockbuster, full-bodied, super-concentrated Chateauneuf du Pape with multiple nuances of spice and Christmas fruit cake, as well as a lusty, heady, alcoholic finish nicely balanced by abundant quantities of glycerin and dense, layered fruit. Don’t hesitate to drink it now as well as over the next two decades.

Medium red. Smoky red fruits, graphite and pepper on the complex nose. Superripe, plump and sweet, with lovely balancing acidity for a wine this high in alcohol. This has real depth and chocolatey sweetness. Very long, ripely tannic finish builds slowly and lingers long. Distinctive, outstanding Chateauneuf du Pape.
