Clos des Papes 位於法國 Southern Rhone的 Chateauneuf du Pape產區，始建於1756年。到18世紀末酒莊才開始出品葡萄酒，到1802年，酒莊才取名為 Clos des Papes。酒莊的葡萄園種植65% Grenache,20% Mourvedre,10% Syrah 和 5% 的其他品種。雖然在香港知名度不是最高（產量有限，實際上流通也非常少)，但其名聲享譽世界，成為了內行人心目中的私伙酒。在2007年，美國權威葡萄酒雜誌 《Wine Spectator》的百大葡萄酒評選中，名列第一。

酒莊的老莊主Paul Avril的一生對教皇新堡產區都有非常大的貢獻，早於1963年時他便繼承了家族的 Clos des Papes，當年所有該產區所有的葡萄酒不是由酒莊自行裝瓶，Paul Avril便是第一個在教皇新堡產區內推廣酒莊自行裝瓶的人，該舉動在當時可算是非常大膽。老莊主從1963年至1987年都在酒莊內工作，在此期間他釀造的1978年 Clos des Papes 得到了有史以來的最高評價——99分。老莊主Paul Avril於 2009年以72歲的高齡因癌症去世後。他的兒子Paul-Vincent接管了Clos des Papes。

從1988年開始 Paul-Vincent在家族酒莊工作，之前他曾經在波爾多幾家知名酒莊工作，其中包括 Chateau Mouton Rothschild和布根地學習釀酒。Paul-Vincent是一個傳統主義者，他嚴格控制產量，並且採用生物動力法進行種植，採用 Unfiltered法裝瓶。酒莊於2010年獲得“Agriculture Biologique”認證故此在品嚐 Clos des Papes 時不難喝出他家優雅的韻美和純淨的酒風,這或多或少都是Paul-Vincent把波爾多和布根地的釀酒哲理融入其中。

Seeming to always show well, the 2004 Closdes Papes is a textbook, classically styled Châteauneuf that boasts gorgeouslycomplex aromas (spice, licorice, saddle leather, kirsch), medium body, a silky,elegant texture, and plenty of length on the finish. While open and evolvedaromatically and drinking beautifully, this should continue to hold for anotherdecade

Deep ruby. Pungent spice and floral notesaccent bright red berry and cherry aromas. Deep, fleshy and sweet, with muskyunderbrush and garrigue adding complexity to the bright, intense red berryflavors. Very rich, in fact one of the more powerful wines of the vintage, withexcellent depth and sweetness. The finish is chewy and strikingly long. Avrilcompares this one to 1995 in quality.
