Old vine parcels in Briones and Villalbaprovided the fruit for this stunning Gran Reserva from the cooler 2008 vintage.Built for the long haul, this is still very young, but has incredibleintensity, focus and freshness, complemented by stylish oak and layers of blackfruits and Asian spices. Incredible value.

The 2008 Imperial Reserva is my favorite ofthe three Imperial Reservas that I tasted together as it has the perfectbalance between ripeness, acidity and tannins, in a wine that is eminentlyelegant, but will require some time in bottle to gain complexity. The fruitleans more towards the red varieties (raspberries and strawberries), it is veryspicy but the wood is almost fully integrated. Very balanced palate, withhigh-toned flavors that make it vibrant.

Bright ruby-red. High-pitched red fruit andfloral scents show very good clarity, picking up cured tobacco, vanilla andspicecake nuances with aeration. Juicy and precise on the palate, offeringsweet raspberry and cherry flavors that are given spine by tangy acidity.Closes spicy and long, with smooth tannins coming in late and adding gentlegrip. Very nicely balanced and just now entering what should be a long drinkingwindow.
