"Signs of matt in its red robe; smoky, pine needle, rasin-date airs. Good early thrust on the palate, gets going well, runs on fully. There is plenty here, it is an honest, authentic Chateauneuf. It ends on flint, the cut of stones, menthol notes in its good late juice and also shows wee late heat. The non-Grenache varieties contribute well here."

教皇新堡（Chateauneuf du Pape）位於阿維尼翁市（Avignon）北部幾英里處，是羅納河谷（Rhone Valley）產區南部最著名且最重要的葡萄酒產區。教皇新堡產區得名於教皇克萊蒙五世（Pope Clement V），克萊蒙五世即位教皇後，並沒有按著傳統到梵蒂岡（Vatican）上任，而是決定將整個教廷遷往阿維尼翁，又因為這位教皇深愛葡萄酒，給這裡葡萄酒產業的發展帶來不可磨滅的功績。該產區在1933年被授予法定產區。

1931年，義大利人法蘭西斯·烏塞格裡奧（Francis Usseglio）離開義大利，前往法國的   Chateauneuf du Pape發展。並於1948年創立了自己的釀酒廠。後來，他的兒子皮埃爾（Pierre）接管並擴大了皮埃爾·烏塞格裡奧（Domaine Pierre Usseglio）的面積。從1998年起，Domaine Pierre Usseglio 由   Francis Usseglio 的孫子   Thierry Usseglio 和Jean-Pierre Usseglio 兩兄弟掌管。年輕一代接管酒莊後就進行了一系列改革，購買了優質老藤葡萄園擴大規模，葡萄園一半以上種滿樹齡超過60年的老藤，其餘平均樹齡都超過30年，釀造出令人驚歎的兩款新釀。

而   Francis Usseglio 另外一個兒子雷蒙德（Raymond）於1960年以他的名字創立了自己的酒莊Domaine Raymond Usseglio。

Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils Châteauneuf-du-Pape   葡萄來自 Les Esqueirrons ,  La   Bigote, Maucoil, Les Serres, Grand -Pierre , Valori,   La Crau  ,  Guigasse 葡萄園，   60-70%  葡萄除梗，3個星期於24-26 度下釀造，定時翻攪淋皮 ，50-60% 放混凝土缸，20-30%大橡木桶，20% 存在228 L的橡木桶12個月，年產3萬至5萬瓶。

This estate looks to have excelled in ’09and sample after sample showed incredibly pure, rich fruit, amazing texture andsolid freshness. The base 2009 Domaine Pierre Usseglio & FilsChâteauneuf-du-Pape showed perfumed, sweet aromatics of kirsch, incense,roasted meat, and licorice, medium to full body and a clean, lush finish. Thisis a back up the truck buy that should drink for a solid 10 to 12 years.

The2009 Chateauneuf du Pape (80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 5% Mourvedre and 5%Cinsault) is another top-notch effort. The wine is aged in tank (60%), foudre(30%) and 1- to 4-year-old small barrels (10%). Sweet raspberry, black currant,and cherry fruit intermixed with licorice, lavender and tobacco leaf jump fromthe glass of this perfumed 2009. With outstanding ripeness, a plush, evolvedmouthfeel and sweet tannins, this beauty is already complex and delicious.

Vivid ruby. Deep red and dark berry aromasshow good clarity and turn spicier with air. Juicy and precise on the palate,offering blackberry and cherry flavors and a hint of candied lavender. Closeswith very good energy and lift, the spice and dark berry notes repeating. Thiswine is showing far more elegance now than it did last year.

Veryyouthful, with bright cherry and cassis aromas and flavors, followed by freshplum, red licorice and spice notes filling out the supple but lengthy finish.
