Mentrida Toledo

New style of Pinot-like Garnacha , Very Fresh & Elegant

Mentrida, Toledo, 門特里達, 托萊多

Méntrida Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) are located to the north of Toledo Province, bordering with the provinces of Avila and Madrid, and extend at the foot of the impressive Sierra de Gredos in its eastern part.  This area is crossed by the lower reaches of the Alberche river and some villages connected to wine and its history are distributed around it: Almorox, Escalona, Maqueda, Fuensalida, Camarena, Casarrubios del Monte and Méntrida itself.

Soils and varieties

These are lands situated between Tajo River on its right bank and the Gredos Mountains. Méntrida climate is the extreme continental type with long cold winters, somewhat tempered by be protection from northern and western cold winds that exerts the mountain barrier of Gredos.

The terrain, gently undulated, consists of sandy soils of granitic origin, they are acid and with very little lime which increases the fineness of the wines produced there.

The vast majority of vines belong to the red variety GARNACHA.  They are very old low production vines, trimmed in glass in order to protect the grapes from the summer sun and ensure the best grape ripening.

Summers are hot and rains scarce since they hardly exceed 300 mm.  These weather conditions are ideal for grape cultivation and promote the application of ecological and bio-dynamic natural techniques for winemaking.

In recent years other varieties of grape have been introduced (tempranillo, merlot, syrah, cabernet ...) to complement the native qualities of our queen variety.
