The property has an incredible terroir and is shared by its nearby neighbors including Montrose, Phelan-Ségur and Calon-Segur.

The history of the winery dates back to 1662, when Chateau Meyney was still a monastery. The archives named it Couvent des Feuillants or Prieuré des Couleys. Meyney is one of the oldest wineries in the Medoc. Passed down by the same family for several generations, it was acquired by CORDIER in 1919 and later by the CA Grands Crus Company.

Terroir and Winemaking

The estate was built in the hills near the Gironde, in the heart of fifty hectares of vineyards consisting of beautiful gravelly clay clusters. The average age of the vines is 35 to 40 years, with 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Noir Merlot and 15% Petit Verdot. The grapes are harvested from completely drained soil, ideal conditions for ripening.

Since 2005, CA GRANDS CRUS has chosen to practice sustainable agriculture, thereby enhancing the positive environmental impact of agricultural practices. According to the Medoc winemaking tradition, harvesting is done entirely by hand. After a double screening of the grapes in the vineyard and winery, winemaking continues in stainless steel and concrete mixing vats. The wine then goes to the cellar where it ages for 16 to 18 months in oak barrels, 40% of which are new each year.

In terms of tasting, Chateau Meyney is a truly fine wine, with a complex and exciting aromatic structure and very good aging potential.
