Domaine Bertagna was purchased in 1982 by the Günther Reh family from Mosel, Germany and has been managed since 1988 by the team of Eva Reh-Siddle and her husband Mark Siddle. The winery's headquarters are located in the village of Vougeot, just a few hundred metres from the famous Château du Clos de Vougeot, overlooking the vineyards of the Vougeot appellation. Today, the estate has 17 hectares of vineyards, including five prestigious Grand Crus: Chambertin, Clos Saint Denis, Corton, Corton Charlemagne and Vougeot, as well as the hidden treasure of the old Grand Crus, the exclusive parcel of Clos de la Perriere (Stone Garden). )

The current proprietress, Eva Reh-Siddle, grew up in a family of winemakers and discovered a love of the land and a passion for wine that has been passed down from generation to generation. Having studied wine at the University of Dijon, the winery welcomed Christophe Vial, the manager of the former Domaine de Montille, a famous winemaker from the village of Volnay, to manage the winery in 2006. Denis Rozat is in charge of the winemaking. And if you watch a video interview with the owner herself, you will see that she knows everything about Burgundy. It's been more than 30 years since she took over the reins of this Burgundy winery as a young girl, and under her leadership Domaine Bertagna was one of the first in all of Burgundy to make ‘elegant Pinot Noir with a high degree of purity’!
Domaine Bertagna's vineyards are located in the Côtes de Nuit on very steep, well-drained slopes. The vineyards are oriented to the east, favouring maximum exposure to the morning sun. The soil is Bathonien Limestone and Calcareous Clay Soil, which is favourable to the growth of the grapes, and Domaine Bertagna believes that good wines come from good vineyards, which means that 80% of the quality of the wines is due to the efforts of the viticulturists. During the winemaking process, they respect Burgundy's winemaking traditions, while at the same time adopting new techniques to achieve the perfect balance of the various components of the wine. The second selection of the grapes after harvesting is very strict, and the colour, aromas and tannins extracted from each grape by pressing follow the standards of the Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée.

The vineyard is planted at a density of 10,000 vines per hectare. The vineyard is environmentally friendly and avoids the use of any chemicals. In order to control harmful insects, they use gender confusion techniques to avoid the use of pesticides. In order to improve the quality of the grapes and to increase their aroma, they strictly control the yield of the grapes. Their philosophy of grape growing is to ‘respect the land and the terroir as much as possible’. The French oak barrels used by the winery are made from 200-year-old oak trees that have been drying for at least two to three years. No chemical pesticides are used in the vineyard, and the grapes are harvested completely de-stemmed, macerated at low temperatures, and kept at no more than 32°C for fermentation. Depending on the quality of the grapes, the proportion of new barrels used increases gradually, reaching more than 50% in the Grand Cru, and the wine is bottled after 12-18 months, without filtration and clarification before bottling.
