Winery

Located in the prestigious Graves de Vayres satellite appellation of Bordeaux, France, Château Bel Air Marguerite Eiffel is a boutique winery that combines a century-old history, a legendary family heritage, and exceptional terroir. The winery leverages its unique gravelly terroir, centuries-old planting and winemaking concepts, and modern, refined winemaking techniques to create a range of wines that are highly representative of the appellation.

The winery boasts a long and rich history, founded in 1580, over four centuries ago. Originally a hunting and resting place for the French royal family, it enjoys a uniquely blessed natural environment. In the early 20th century, this venerable winery was acquired by the family of Gustave Eiffel, the renowned architect and designer of the Eiffel Tower. This acquisition imbued the winery with a unique and legendary heritage. The iconic Eiffel Tower motif on the label has become a distinctive mark, setting it apart from other Bordeaux wineries and continuing the Eiffel family's tradition of quality. After a century of family management, since 2020, the winery has been jointly managed by experienced winemakers Yves Glotin and Jean-Philippe Janoueix, infusing the historic estate with modern winemaking concepts and allowing the traditional terroir to be better presented.

Region

The winery's vineyards cover 16 hectares, with only 1 hectare reserved for the exclusive cultivation of white grape varieties. This limited planting area contributes to the refinement of the white wines. Nestled on a gravelly plateau between Bordeaux and Saint-Émilion, the vineyard boasts soils composed of blue clay and silica gravel, with a subsoil rich in iron oxide. This unique soil structure not only retains moisture and nutrients for the vines' roots but also imparts a delicate minerality and smoothness to the wines, making it an ideal terroir for producing premium white wines. The winery adheres to organic farming and sustainable development principles, completely rejecting chemical herbicides and excessive pesticides. Employing alternating row cultivation and natural methods, the vines here have an average age of 25 to 35 years. The mature vines produce grapes with rich, complex flavors, laying a solid foundation for the wine's quality. The winery uses a classic blend of white grape varieties: 60% Semillon, 20% Sauvignon Blanc, and 20% Gris Sauvignon Blanc. These three varieties complement each other, achieving a balance of structure, freshness, and aromatic complexity.

Winemaking

The 2022 vintage of Graves de Vayres is a perfect embodiment of the winery's terroir and exquisite craftsmanship. 2022 was an exceptional vintage for Bordeaux. The hot, dry, and sunny summer allowed the grapes to fully accumulate sugar and flavor compounds, while the mild and cool autumn weather effectively preserved the grapes' vibrant acidity, resulting in a wine with a perfect balance of fruit, acidity, and minerality.

In the winemaking process, the winery adhered to a concept that combined tradition and modernity. Grapes were hand-harvested, undergoing a rigorous selection process to remove any damaged fruit, retaining only the most ripe and flavorful grapes. After harvesting, the grapes were gently pressed, strictly separating the juice from the pulp. A low-temperature fermentation process maximized the preservation of the grapes' fresh fruit aromas and pure floral and fruit flavors. Simultaneously, a portion of the wine was aged in French oak barrels, allowing the soft woody flavors to gradually infuse the wine, adding complexity and depth. Finally, precise blending ensured consistent taste and quality in every bottle. This wine has an ABV of 12.5%, belonging to the classic Bordeaux dry white style, with a refreshing and light palate suitable for most drinking occasions.
