🌟Third Growth in the Haut-Médoc region from the 1855 classification

Château La Lagune is an estate ranked as a third growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification – the highest rating for any property in the Haut-Médoc. 

The organically farmed vineyard covers 80 hectares (200 acres) on a south-facing gravel hill of well-drained white pebbles which reflect the sun back onto the fruit to aid ripening. It is planted 60 percent to Cabernet Sauvignon, with 30 percent Merlot and an unusually high 10 percent of the demanding Petit Verdot. A second wine, Moulin La Lagune, is produced from younger vines which do not make the grade for the grand vin. Since 2004, a third wine, Mademoiselle L, has been made from another 30-ha (74-acre) plot further down the La Lagune slope. It is a 50-50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot and is intended to be drunk young.

Region

The Haut-Médoc region is located in the south-central part of the Medoc, on the upper reaches of the Gironde River, spanning about 60 kilometers from north to south, with an area of ​​4,198 hectares planted with grapes. This region has a long history. In the 17th century, it was vigorously developed by the Dutch, forming the initial form of Haut-Médoc. In 1815, a wine broker from Chartrons strongly recommended wines produced in Haut-Médoc, and the reputation of the region began to spread from this period. In 1936, it was recognized as an AOC legal region by INAO.

After fermentation, it will aged in French oak barrels for 18 months, 50% are new barrels. La Lagune breaks the traditional Haut Medoc style and tends to be more feminine. It has a fresh fruity aroma and no rough taste, but is more like the delicate taste of Margaux.
