According to Stephen Brook’s 《The Complete Bordeaux》. Chateau La Tour de Mons is an ancient property in Margaux dates back to the 13thcentury, when the Colomb family bought the now-ruinous chateau. It takes its name from Pierre de Mons, who bought the estate in 1623.

It remained in the Mons family after the Revolution; following the marriage of a Mons daughter, it passed into the Gastebois family, whose descendants sold theestate in 1995 to a group of financial institutions. They brought in Hubert de Bouard of Chateau Angelus as the consultant for both their winemaking and vineyard management program.

However everything changed in late 2019 when Chateau La Tour de Mons was sold to the Perrado family. Headed by Nathalie Perrado, this was an expansion of their holdings in the Margaux appellation as they already owned Chateau Marquis d’Alesme and Chateau Labegorce.
It is widely accepted that the terroir here is exceptional. It consists of a single parcel spread over various gravelly croupes just one KM away from the Gironde. There is limestone subsoil, and some very stony blocks planted with Cabernet Sauvignon. The oldest vines, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot were planted in 1934, although eight hectares have been planted since 1997. The grapes are picked by machine as well as manually. The vinification is entirely traditional, using selected yeasts. The wine spends 12 months in 40% new oak.

【James Suckling 93pts】
Really pretty and linear with a seamless, pretty core of blue fruit and firm, chewy tannins. Medium to full body. Racy and well done.
【Robert Parker 83-85pts】
Composed of 57% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc and 3% Cabernet Franc, the 2020 La Tour de Mons is aging in French oak barrels, 30% new. The alcohol is 13%. Deep purple-black colored, it needs a little coaxing to reveal cedary notions over a core of black cherries, fresh blackberries and stewed plums, with touches of wild mushrooms and tree bark. The medium-bodied palate is a little thin, with a chewy frame and rather short, flat finish.
