Winery

The birth of Chateau Lanessan dates all theway back to 1793 when it was founded by Jean Delbos. Initially the vineyard andestate was much smaller, as the property started out with 24 hectares. Theimpressive, classic chateau, with its Tudor, inspired influences wasconstructed in 1878.

Region

Eight generations later, Chateau Lanessanremains in the hands of the Bouteiller family, which are direct descendants ofthe founder. This is quite a feat for a Chateau located in the Medoc, asmost vineyards have changed hands several times.

Winemaking

Aside from their obvious passion for wine,equestrian activities have always been a part of the makeup for ChateauLanessan. They have numerous stables, which were constructed at the same timeas the chateau in the shape of a horseshoe. As horses and carriages played animportant part in the history of Lanessan, the estate also maintains a museumdevoted to historical carriages.

Chateau Lanessan has remained popular withwine lovers for their traditionally styled wine, which has always sold for avery consumer friendly price. In an effort to increase quality, starting withthe 2015 vintage, the owners of Lanessan brought in Hubert de Bouard, the ownerof Chateau Angelus as their consultant.

This is showing aromas of currants, wild bramble berries, bell peppers and hints of anise. It’s fresh with a medium body, crunchy and medium-firm tannins and a juicy, fruit-forward finish. Drink after 2024.

【Robert Parker 90pts】

A successful effort, the 2021 Lanessan exhibits aromas of cassis, pencil shavings and loamy soil, followed by a medium to full-bodied, lively and supple palate that's fleshy and enveloping, framed by powdery tannins and bright acids. I suspect this estate could aim even higher, but they have produced an attractive 2021. Tasted three times.
