In 2019 the Albert Grivault Estate celebrated its 140th anniversary; a successful family legacy spanning four generations.
After Albert Grivault, the estate was run by Albert Grivault’s widow and then by his daughters Berthe Grivault and Mathilde Bardet, née Grivault.
Together, they managed to overcome the 1929 crisis and the two World Wars.
In 1980, Albert Grivault’s grandchildren, Michel Bardet, Marguerite, and Denise Chevignard, née Bardet, took over the estate. Marguerite Bardet continued to work at the estate until 2019.
Since 2004, the responsibility for the estate has been passed on to Claire Bardet, managing director, assisted by Henri Marc, who is in charge of vinification under the guidance of Michel, who still participates in the aging and marketing of the wines.

In his Encyclopedia of Wines and Spirits of All Countries, Alexis Lichine writes: “In Meursault les Perrières is the best vineyard plot and the wine from the heart of this cru, the Clos des Perrières, stands up to the incomparable Montrachet”. and Albert Grivault is one of the best Meursault producer who own Clos des Perrières as a monopole.

A remarkable wine that can be kept for a very long time, the Clos des Perrières is capable of outstanding evolution, which was demonstrated in 1999 by a vertical tasting from 1997 to 1895, covered by the magazine Bourgogne Aujourd’hui under the title Tout Près de l’Everest (Close to Everest). This exceptional development was confirmed again in 2019 at another tasting to celebrate the 140th anniversary of the estate. Even Meursault Perrieres is one of the most famed Premier Cru as good as Grand Cru.
VINEYARD CHARACTERISTICS:
Our Perrières consists of two vineyard plots totaling 1 ha 54 a 59 ca.
The Albert Grivault estate is the main owner in this appellation which
extends over 13 hectares (28 owners). The soil is comprised of brown,
clayey, and sandy limestone in almost equal proportions.
The vineyard is on a hillside facing south-southwest.
VINIFICATION AND AWARDS:
The average age of the vines in 2019 was 35 years old. It produces
approximately 9,300 bottles annually (average over 20 years). This wine
is also a regular participant in the Tastevinage and the Vinalies Nationales
competition. The 2015 Perrières was a ‘Major’ (exceptional wine)
of the 101st Tastevinage at the Chateau du Clos de Vougeot.

Grivault's 1.55 hectares of Perrières comes from two parcels next to their monopole Clos des Perrières; there is perhaps just a touch more richness in the wines from the Clos, but this is done in a similar style, which in 2022 produced ripe notes of apricot, apple and quince, with notes of heady white flowers and a bit of reduction. The texture is slightly less dense, but the balance and equilibrium are on par. The winemaking is identical: whole cluster pressed, fermentation in primarily used casks, no sulfur until after malo, and no batonnage — the formula produced a marvellous result.
