Domaine De Cibadies was acquired by the Bonfils family, led by Jean-Michel Bonfils, in 1978. The family's story began much earlier, in 1870, with Joseph Bonfils. He fled to North Africa, specifically Algeria, where he met his future wife, Honorine Doveaux. Honorine started cultivating vineyards in the region and received recognition for her work, laying the foundation for the Bonfils wine empire.
Jean-Michel Bonfils
In 1962, Jean-Michel Bonfils took the first step in establishing the kingdom in France. After acquiring Cibadies, he made the bold decision to plant the uncommon Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes in southern France. This decision proved to be visionary, and he continued expanding the estate by acquiring more vineyards. Today, the sixth generation of the family owns a vast kingdom with 1,600 hectares of vineyards, making them the largest independent producer in France. They possess various estates, including Chateau Vaugelas, Cibadies, Chateau Capitou, Chateau Millegrand, Chateau Les Carrasses, Chateau St-Pierre de Serjac, Chateau Esparrou, Villerambert, Cantaussels, and Aubaret. In addition to the Languedoc region, they also ventured into Bordeaux in 2007 with the acquisition of Chateau Coucy in Montagne Saint-Emilion and Domaine de La Motte.

About the Domaine de Cibadies
Domaine was started in 1978，locate in Pays d'Oc, the hill is famous for its fierce lightning storms. As a buffer against their intensity, Pierre Paul Riquet himself invented and designed the weirs at Capestang during building work on the Canal du Midi. Pegasus, the winged horse and master of storms in mythology, has been the emblem and protector of our estate since time immemorial.
Winemaking
The Chardonnay grapes harvested at maximum maturity undergo skin maceration from 6 to 12 hours before being pneumatically pressed. The grapes, the must and the wine are protected from oxidization during the entire winemaking process. Vinification is temperature controlled around 16°, and the wine is subsequently matured on fine lees, and aged in oak barrels.
Tasting Note：
By intentionally delaying the harvest, the grapes at Domaine De Cibadies develop a concentrated aroma, releasing scents of yellow fruits such as apricot, pear, lemon, and grapefruit peel. They also possess a hint of creamy flavor. Upon tasting, one can experience the sweetness of grapefruit, pear, and green apple, complemented by the delightful sweetness of vanilla. Thanks to the local Mediterranean climate and soil composition, the wine offers a rich texture and abundant minerals. The aging on lees further enhances its roundness and full-bodied character, creating a well-balanced profile with good acidity and a lingering finish. This wine is an excellent value option, perfect for social gatherings and special occasions. It is definitely worth a try as it consistently delivers and leaves no room for disappointment.
