⭐️Robert Parker recommended Pierre Usseglio in his book(The Worls’s Greatest Wine Estate: A Modern Perspective)
『In many ways, this estate symbolizes the dramatic surge in quality that Chateauneuf-du-Pape has witnessed over the last decade, the result of the younger generation taking an existing vineyard, augmenting it through meticulous purchases of very fine plots of old vines, and introducing two new cuvees of truly spectacular wines.』

The Pierre Usseglio Estate The USSEGLIO Estate is a family farm. Its creation dates back to 1948, that year, the grandfather, Francis USSEGLIO, leaves Italy to come and work at CHATEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE as a wine worker. His very first harvest came out of the press in 1949. Later, his son Pierre took over and increased the area of Domaine Pierre Usseglio. Today it covers 39 hectares, 24 hectares of red Châteauneuf-du-Pape, 1 hectare of white Châteauneuf-du-Pape, 6 hectares of red Lirac, 6 hectares of Côtes-du-Rhône and 2 hectares of Wine from France, which are operated by Pierre's two sons: Jean-Pierre and Thierry Usséglio.

The Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation covers 3,200 hectares. The vineyard is located on the left bank of the Rhône where the terroir is diversified: sandy, clayey or stony soils and covered by the famous rolled pebbles. These have the distinction of storing heat throughout the day and then diffusing it at the base of the stump at night. This results in greater grain maturity. The authorized yield does not exceed 30 to 35 hectoliters / hectare. Finally, the diversity of the 13 grape varieties offers great complexity of aromas and good structure to the wines.

Pierre Usseglio make a traditional red Châteauneuf-du-Pape.Half of vines are over 65, the other is around 40 years old. The yields obtained are very low, around 20 to 25 hectoliters per hectare, depending on the vintage. The harvest is still manual and sorting remains selective. The grapes are destemmed and the fermentation lasts 25 to 30 days. The wines are then aged 50% in oak casks for 12 and 50% in concrete tanks. From then on, we obtain powerful, round wines, with pronounced aromas of red fruits and spices. The optimal period for drinking them is between 5 and 10 years, depending on tastes and vintages.

The Usseglio’s consider the 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee de Mon Aieul to be their greatest to date. I’ve done numerous tastings with the 2010 and 2007 side by side, and more times than not, I think the 2007 is the better wine. Time will tell though, and both are sensational wines that readers should have in their cellars. The inky colored 2010 is 100% Grenache fermented with 30% stems and aged in a combination of older barrels and foudre. More focused and precise than the '07 (and even darker in color), yet still with massive concentration and depth, it offers deep, rich notes of blackberries, cassis, ground herbs, pepper and crushed rocks. Full-bodied, thick and layered on the palate, it never puts a foot wrong, has fabulous purity and a blockbuster finish. It needs 3-4 years of cellaring, but will have 20-25 years of longevity. 98+ points.

Inky ruby. Red and dark berries on the highly perfumed, floral-accented nose. Lush but energetic, offering intense black raspberry and lavender pastille flavors and showing
strong spicy cut. Fine-grained tannins give shape to a strikingly long, sappy finish.Superbly energetic and rich.

A bold, ripe, almost heady style, with thickly layered blueberry, fig and boysenberry fruit laced with mouthwatering spice and melted black licorice, followed by a long, fruitcake-filled finish. This has the stuffing and grip for cellaring, but ultimately for fans of the more bombastic style. Best from 2014 through 2030.
