Strathclyde Distillery is located in the city of Glasgow, the capital of Lowland Scotland (there is currently another distillery in the capital of Glasgow, Glasgow Distillery). It was founded in 1927 by Seager Evans Company, which was established in London in 1805 by James Lys Seager and Wiliam Evans. , and owned the Millbank Distillery. While establishing the Strathclyde Distillery, Long John International Ltd was also established to manage the Scotch whiskey industry.

Strathclyde Distillery uses column stills to mainly produce cereal whiskey. The main raw material of the distillery is wheat, and all whiskey is used for blending. Due to the large output and easy equipment expansion, the number of cereal distilleries is not as large as that of malt distillation. There are so many distilleries, and as each distillery gradually expands in scale, the number of distilleries is decreasing. Today, there are only 6 cereal distilleries left in Scotland.

In 1957, the distillery was purchased by an American company, and they established the Kinclaith Malt Whiskey Distillery in the same distillery. However, in 1975, the distillery was merged into Whitbread, now the largest hotel and restaurant group in the UK. The malt still was closed to make way for the production of grain whiskey.

United Dome acquired ownership in July 2005, and the distillery became part of the Pernod Ricard Group. It currently produces 40 million liters of grain whiskey per year, mainly used in the group's Ballantine's and Chivas. Used in blended whiskey brands, since single grain whiskey requires many years of aging to change the aroma structure, most of the more popular single grain whiskeys are older versions released by independent bottlers.

Douglas Thomson Single Grain Scotch Whiskey is bottled by the talented Thompson Brothers in Dornoch. Distilled in 1993, it was matured first in bourbon casks and then in quarter sherry casks. Bottled at 47.9% ABV. Uncoloured and unchill-filtered, this is a light, delicate, smooth spirit that exudes age from nearly thirty years of maturation.
