Drappier Champagne is an eighth-generation family estate founded in 1808, located in the village of Urville within the Aube department—the southernmost sub-region of Champagne. The estate currently owns over 70 hectares of vineyards and leases an additional 50 hectares. Its vineyards are planted with 70% Pinot Noir, 15% Pinot Meunier, 5% Chardonnay, and 5% ancient varieties such as Arbane and Petit Meslier. With over five pages of wines listed on WineSearcher, Drappier offers many innovative and intriguing creations! For instance, their 100% Fromenteau cuvée aged underwater! In 2016, they became the region's first Écoact-certified carbon-neutral estate, with 17 hectares of vineyards certified organic. Owner Michel Drappier was honored as The Drinks Business Green Personality of the Year. The vineyards for the astronomically priced Boerl & Kroff champagne were originally the private estate of the late Andre Drappier. Today, Drappier crafts this champagne, which commands a minimum price of $10,000 on WineSearcher. Drappier was personally selected by former French President Charles de Gaulle for his private wine collection and was the official champagne of the 2003 G8 Summit in France!

Drappier earned the Green Personality of the Year award for its dedicated implementation of multiple environmental initiatives.
Organic farming practices eliminate herbicides and pesticides, relying instead on manual weeding with hoes, horse-drawn plowing, and fallow periods. By managing surface vegetation, biodiversity is enhanced, ensuring the vineyard's natural equilibrium. The estate also addresses climate change, earning Drappier its ECOACT certification as a carbon-neutral champagne producer. To reduce greenhouse gases, natural refrigeration in cellars is standard practice. Electric vehicles and tractors have been introduced, eliminating fossil fuel use. The estate generates 75% of its electricity via photovoltaic panels and employs low-carbon bottles (80% recycled glass). Even Antoine's beloved horse, Ida, participates in plowing organic plots to reduce carbon footprint and prevent soil erosion.

Some of the winery's yeast strains are selected from the estate itself. After years of cultivation, they are named Drappier Fermentum Meum (DFM), adding another layer of indigenous terroir character. Only the first pressing juice is used. The winemaking process involves minimal intervention: no filtration, no color correction, and no animal-derived products, making it unofficially vegan. No filtration occurs before bottling, with minimal sulfur dioxide added. Sulfur levels are maintained between 30mg and 45mg per liter—less than a quarter of the legal maximum. This yields a deeper, more natural color and intensely pure aromas. Most cuvées undergo aging in oak barrels or concrete tanks.
This flagship Grande Sendrée vintage champagne has aged on lees in the bottle for 9 years, with 35% having spent time in large oak barrels. It has consistently earned high scores from major wine critics over the years!

Bright red berry pastry and some caramel notes on the nose here. The palate has smooth alluring texture plus flavors of Turkish delight. Red cherry and raspberry crush sit nicely in a smooth, even and fleshy package. Super musky finish; really pretty Champagne this.
