🏅 World GIN Awards 2018 Best Portuguese London Dry Gin

Gotik was the brainchild of an entrepreneur and a butternut squash producer in Ribatejo, Portugal. Together with four other entrepreneurs, they founded MVPGIN Portugal Winery. MVPGIN uses ancestral distillation techniques in copper stills instead of the latest technology to produce quality gin made in unique editions. Gotik Gin is the first gin in Ribatejo, Portugal, and in honor of Santarem, it is distilled 7 times and uses juniper berries, butternut squash, coriander, pink peppercorns, walnuts, cardamom, tomatoes, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, St. Robert’s grass, St. John’s grass, oregano, limes. , rosemary, lavender, thyme, orange blossom, lemon, orange and cinnamon and other 21 ingredients. The traditional distillation process also gives it sufficient strength, structured body and lasting sweetness.

"London Dry Gin" is the mainstream sales of GIN. The so-called "Dry" means that the flavor of the wine tends to be not sweet, not really "dry". The name "London Dry Gin" refers to a type of wine in principle, not limited to London production. In addition to England, many countries including North America and Australia produce products belonging to this type of gin. However, in some countries (such as France), they strictly stipulate that only gin produced in the UK is eligible to be sold under the name of London Dry Gin.
London Dry Gin must be made entirely by distillation, usually using high-distillation liquor made from grains/sugar cane/molasses as the base liquor. Although each distillery has its own special methods, some of the highest quality brands usually add juniper berries, coriander seeds, orange peel, iris root, black currant and other diverse botanical spices to the base liquor and then distill it together. As for the detailed spice formula, it is the business secret or ancestral secret recipe of each distillery, and it is rarely known to outsiders.
The original regulations stipulated that no other flavor enhancers could be added, and all flavors could only be obtained during the distillation process. However, the EU has amended it in April 2019 to allow the use of neutral spirits with no more than 5 grams of methanol per 100 liters to add other natural raw materials. After distillation again (like distilled GIN, the distillation method before April 2019 was limited to traditional distiller, and now there are no restrictions on the type, size, and heating method of distiller), the alcohol strength of the distillate obtained from natural raw materials must be above 70%, and only water can be added for dilution before bottling. However, the sugar content added per liter of liquor cannot exceed 0.1 grams (it can be labeled as unsweet), dyeing is not allowed, and the minimum alcohol strength must be 37.5%.
Therefore, the London Dry Gin restrictions only mention the production process. There are no special restrictions on the flavor, and it has nothing to do with the place of production. As long as it complies with the above EU regulations, it can be legally marked on the wine label.

Taste: It smells like melon, cucumber, and winter melon. It is quite special because it is made of walnut pumpkin. It is smooth and comfortable to the mouth, and it feels like black tea. It blends very well with the juniper flavor, and the taste is rich.
