The founder of Jack Daniel was originally named Jasper Newton Daniel, but he has another more well-known name-Jack Daniel. Jack ran away from home when he was a child and was later taken in by pastor and brewer Dan Call. On Cal's farm, Jack learned the craft of brewing whiskey from Call and Nathan Green. After inheriting his father's estate, Jack founded a legally registered distillery, Jack Daniels. Although the bottle of Jack Daniels whiskey is printed with "Est. & Reg. in 1866", Jack's biographer stated that according to the official registration file, Jack Daniels was founded in 1875.

In 1904, Jack's Old No. 7 whiskey won the gold medal at the World's Fair held in St. Louis, Missouri, and became famous. In 1906, Jack's health deteriorated. Since he never married and had no children, he inherited the distillery to his two nephews, the Motlow brothers, the following year. After Jack died in 1911, the Motlow brothers ran Jack Daniels together. Soon after, the elder brother Lem Motlow took over the distillery. During Lem's tenure, Jack Daniels was affected by events such as Prohibition and World War II, and once moved its base or even stopped production. Lem passed away in 1947, and his sons Robert, Reagor, Dan and Conner took over the Jack Daniels distillery, but the four brothers sold the distillery to Brown-Forman in 1956.

The raw materials used by Jack Daniels to brew whiskey are all high-quality corn, rye and barley, and the water used comes from Cave Spring Hollow near the distillery. The spring water here flows at a flow rate of 800 gallons per minute throughout the year, and the water temperature is maintained at 56℉ (about 13.3℃) all year round. In addition, the uniqueness of Jack Daniels whiskey lies in the alcoholization treatment that the distillery performs on it after distillation. During the aging process, Jack Daniels lets the new wine with an alcohol content of 70% abv flow drop by drop through 3-meter-thick sugar maple charcoal for filtration, thus giving the finished wine a smooth taste and creating Jack Daniels' unique "Tennessee Whiskey". It is worth mentioning that the charcoal used in this tedious process is made by the distillery piling sugar maple strips to a height of 1.5 meters, then igniting it with unaged whiskey, and then extinguishing it with water after it reaches charcoal state, and then grinding and compacting it.

The entire production process of Jack Daniels has extremely strict regulations, and strict control is carried out as early as the selection of raw materials such as corn, rye and barley. These grains are processed with mountain spring water near the distillery to become a kind of mash. The spring water temperature is maintained at 56 degrees Fahrenheit all year round, does not contain iron, but is rich in lime. Jack Daniel's whiskey is brewed by the ancient way of souring the mash. Of course, this whiskey is not a real acidic wine, we call it sour mash whiskey.

The final result of fermentation is the so-called "brewer's beer", which is then put into the distiller for distillation. If the distilled whiskey is immediately put into barrels for aging, it may become bourbon whiskey. However, after the Jack Daniel Distillery distills the whiskey, it is filtered on 3 meters thick charcoal made from sugar maple trees, so that the wine drips slowly. It is precisely this last process that makes the whiskey produced by Jack Daniel far superior to bourbon whiskey, adding a unique flavor to Jack Daniel and eventually earning the reputation of "Tennessee whiskey".
