Our land is rooted in six centuries of history.
For six centuries, winemakers have been working the land at Cheval Blanc; land which was planted with vines over 2,000 years ago. The current configuration of the domain dates back to the middle of the 14th century. During the past 150 years, the reins at Cheval Blanc have changed hands only once. This has enabled long term stability in terms of technical management and has safeguarded the integrity of its vineyards.
Château Cheval Blanc: A unique heritage, unconventional grape varieties.
Clay, gravel and sand: three important types of soil cohabit the 56 plots of Cheval Blanc. Added to this natural richness are the unconventional grape varieties, not usually found on the Right Bank. Château Cheval Blanc’s vineyards are mainly planted with Cabernet Franc as well as some Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
A work of art at the service of wine.
Designed by Christian de Portzamparc and inaugurated in June 2011, Cheval Blanc’s winery rises like a ground swell accentuated by two waves of white concrete. A wild herb garden populates this artificial slope with its graceful curves which gently disappear behind the elevation of the château.
A team dedicated to the service of excellence.
For over 200 years, generations of wine growers have worked the land of Cheval Blanc. Workers, farmers, winemakers and cellar masters; each driven by an identical passion for their profession.
🏅 Vinous 94 pts
The 2012 Petit Cheval is striking for many reasons, not the least of which isa very high percentage of Cabernet Franc that gives the wine much of itsaromatic presence and overall depth. Deceptively medium-bodied instructure, the 2012 possesses remarkable balance and harmony. There islittle question the 2012 Petit Cheval is better than the Grand Vin at manyother properties. Rose petal, lavender, violet and mint notes leave a lastingimpression on the finish.
🏅 Wine Advocate 91 pts
Tasted blind at the Southwold Bordeaux tasting. The 2012 Le Petit Cheval has a low-key nose that might be lost in the crowd of its more ostentatious peers, but it is well-defined with beautifully integrated oak, briary and graphite aromas developing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, a keen line of acidity and an almost Left Bank finish that deserves a round of applause. Under blind conditions, I was not the only one to give this one of my most positive comments against the "big boys." Not to be underestimated.
🏅 James Suckling 90 pts
A refined and firm red with dried cherries, spices and coffee beans. Full to medium body, fine tannins and a delicious finish.
