The history of Tenuta Luce

When Vittorio Frescobaldi – in the early Nineties – met Robert Mondavi, they gave life to a new chapter in the history of the great Tuscan wines, in the history of fine wines.

From that meeting, came Luce. It all started from the desire to make a dream come true: create excellent wines from Tuscany in a particularly suitable terroir, Montalcino.

An ambitious project called Luce della Vite, a tribute to this primary element that gives warmth, energy, and life: in nature, nothing would exist without light.

Over the years, Tenuta Luce honoured this vision and became a cradle where exclusive wines are born, wines that earned a widespread, international appreciation among the great wines from Tuscany.

Lucente

Lucente is Luce’s second wine. It’s the result of a selection of Sangiovese and Merlot grapes capable of producing a wine that stands out thanks to its immediacy and pleasantness, in a contemporary style. It’s the perfect representation of the unique territory where it is produced. The wine matures for 12 months in barriques inside Tenuta Luce’s cellar before bottling.

Very focused and classy on the nose with blackberries, currants, mushrooms and dark bark. It’s full-bodied with a tight palate of chewy tannins that give structure and form to the wine. Beautiful center palate of dark fruit and mushrooms. Subtle and strong. Give this at least three or four years to resolve itself. Best after 2024.

An icon wine of the late 1990s and early 2000s, the Tenuta Luce 2018 Luce is recognized far and wide for its pretty sunshine motif on the front label. This mix of equal parts Sangiovese and Merlot is a symbolic marriage of Italy and France blended to safeguard the core identities of its two vinous protagonists. The Sangiovese adds wild rose, cherry and freshness; the Merlot brings on softness and texture. Each actor plays off the other in a flirtatious but ultimately complementary manner. This is a full-bodied Tuscan blend (aged for 24 months in 80% new French barrique) that will definitely give pleasure to that large crowd of Luce enthusiasts out there. Production is exactly 91,734 bottles.

Vinous 94 pts

The 2018 Luce della Vite is loaded with inky dark fruit, chocolate, newleather, licorice and espresso. Rich and sumptuous in feel the 2018 is anextroverted wine to be sure, but it avoids the heavy, over-extracted style ofthe past. What comes through is the natural intensity, texture andradiance of Montalcino. This is very nicely done.
