Winery

Since 1869. For more than 150 years, Michel Schneider has represented high-quality varietal wines whose characteristics are not easily forgotten. The combination of traditional and modern production methods enables us to brew wine slowly and gently. Our red wines are aged in classic barrique (traditional wooden barrels). As a result, these wines produce a slight spiciness that becomes particularly rounded and harmonious. Our varietal wines are the perfect companion to round out everyday life. The winery also meticulously offers non-alcoholic red, rosé and white wines for those who like the aroma of wine but don’t drink.

Region

Rheinhessen is the largest wine-producing region in Germany and has seen significant developments in both wine quality and wine promotion. The vineyard covers approximately 26,500 hectares and is one of the most vibrant wine regions today. The Rhine Hesse is located in the valley of the Rhine River, facing the Rhine to the east and north, the Naher to the west, and the Halt Mountains to the south. The production area is located in the rolling hilly valleys and is known as the "Land of a Thousand Hills".
Main grape varieties
The proportions of white and black grape varieties were 70.9% and 29.1%. The main grape varieties are Riesling (17.4%), Muller-Thurgau (16.1%), Dornfelder (12.6%), as well as Silvaner, Grauburgunder, Spätburgunder, Weißburgunder, Portugieser and Kerner.
The style of wine produced in Rhine Hesse is delicately aromatic, mild and supple, with a moderate body. The notable character gives Rhine Hesse a higher recognizability than other German-produced wines.

Winemaking

Icewine is actually English, and in German it is Eiswein.

It is a unique and rare specialty of Canada, Germany, and Austria, known in the world as the quintessential wine, and many people call it "liquid gold". Because it is wine brewed utilizing naturally frozen grapes on the vines when temperatures are lower.

Generally the usual red and white wine, grape harvest time will be every year of August ~ September to carry out the harvest

However, according to the definition of the national standard of "Ice Wine" (GB/T 25504-2010), ice wine refers to postponing the harvest of grapes (usually in late November/December or even January every year), when the temperature is below -7°C under natural conditions, so that the grapes are kept on the branches for a certain period of time, so that the grapes will freeze, because the moisture will freeze, and the sugar will not Therefore, when the frozen grapes are pressed, the rich and high-sweet grape juice can be extracted, and finally fermented and brewed (no additional sugar is added during the production process).

The winemaker then brews the grape juice into a sweet wine with pure flavor. This is the process of making ice wine

However, in recent years, due to global warming, which can greatly reduce the days of grapes freezing, production has also been greatly reduced as a result, and German ice wine has become even rarer. So the price will also increase relatively

Tasting Note

A wonderful German sweet wine brewed from grapes picked in a frozen state after the early autumn frost. The grapes are gently pressed, the frozen moisture remains in the press, the grape juice is extremely sweet and rich in flavor. Brewing must ensure that the grapes remain healthy and of excellent quality before the initial frost.

Palate: With notes of honey, dates and figs. Refreshing acidity makes it even more refreshing. It pairs well with a variety of fruit desserts and cheeses.

Test: With a very strong lychee aroma, honey and white flower aroma, the entrance in addition to feel the very fragrant honey sweetness also with dried apricot, raisin dried fruit flavor. As an aperitif / after dinner with dessert will be an excellent choice
