Based in Montà d'Alba the Pelassa Winery owns vineyards in the Roero Area and in Verduno – Barolo Area. Thanks to consistency in choices, commitment to the job and love and care for details, the Pelassa family captured not only the home market, but also the foreign one, being on the wine list of the best restaurants in Europe, America and Asia.

The Pelassa family has always produced wine from the vineyards they owned. The present winery was created in 1960 by Mario, who has been producing and making wine from his vineyards for more than fifty years, with the help of his wife Maria Teresa Viglione. Until 2000 the firm's market was the north-western part of Italy, now their sons Davide e Daniele have transformed it into a modern and dynamic firm.

Mario founded the Pelassa winery in 1960, after he had finished his military service. He was able to find a consistent group of customers in Northern Italy. Now he devotes all his time and passion to work in the vineyards.

Maria Teresa, familiarly called Teresina, has always supported Mario and now she continues to help Davide and Daniele in the vineyards, in the cellar and with the customers: she is "simply indispensable". As we say in Italy, "la mamma è sempre la mamma" ("our mum will always be our mum").

Davide is a vine-dresser by passion and a tractorist by vocation. All his love and dedication go to the vineyards as well as to his wife and his two beautiful daughters Greta and Giada.

To many people Daniele is the face associated with the Pelassa winery. He not only makes wine by processing the grapes from the family vineyards, but he also enthusiastically promotes it around the world, so that more and more people can get to know it and love it.

BAROLO

Grape variety: 100% Nebbiolo in its Michet, Lampia and Rosè sub-varieties.

Vine-Training system and density: Guyot, 5000 vines per hectare.

Altitude: 350 m above sea level.

Harvest time: manual in the second half of October.

Winemaking: Barolo with fermentation of about 15/20 days at 26°C. De-stemming, soft pressing of the grapes. The must is pumped over on a dèlastage way to improve the extraction of the colour and the varietal aromas. After the malolactic fermentation the wine is matured in Slavonian and French wooden casks and barrels with weekly topping up, tastings and analyses to make sure the wine is developing correctly.

Ageing: 3 years, 2 years in barrels and 12 months  in bottle.

Characteristics: brilliant garnet red colour.
Deeply scented bouquet; it develops from the dry flowers and wild rose scent to “tar” exalting the ethereal bouquet. Velvety, rich, ripe taste; tannic impressive and well balanced. It is a powerful and rich wine.

Food pairing: excellent with grilled red meats, meats cooked on the spit; “haute cuisine” white and red meats with white and dark sauces. Superb with truffle. It is best to decant and serve at 18°C.

Awards: Gambero Rosso - Two Glasses; Decanter WWA Gold Medal 95 Points; Wine Enthusiast Magazine 90 Points.

Mineral nose with dried grapefruit and orange citrus on the nose. Firm tannins remind you of the Barolo identity, but there is nothing chewy here. Creamy and well-honed with a subtle cranberry and mineral note to the finish. Drink now or hold.
