The Fanti Family has been producing wine and-extra virgin olive oil in Tuscany for nearly 200 years. In the 1970s, current owner Filippo first took over the Estate, marking a major turning point in its history. After redesigning and replanting across its 300 hectare property, an innovation-meets-tradition winemaking technique has resulted in extremely high-quality grape growing, all while avoiding any non-organic fertilizers. Eighty percent of the plantings in the vineyards are Sangiovese or Sangiovese Grosso, a focus that reinforces the family’s commitment to the quality wine of the region and which is reflected in Fanti’s highly rated Brunelli. Filippo’s daughter Elisa joined the team in 2007 and has since been instrumental in reinforcing their position in the international market.

Sangiovese is the most widely planted grape in Italy and the oldest red grape variety. The style is treated with different methods, and the effect will be very different. From the freshest, young style without barrel aging, to 5 years of aging The above Brunello style, but it can be done by Sangiovese, and its plasticity is very high

Inside the winery, they are carefully selected everything, from the sorting table, stainless steel vats and pumpover system to a very high standard of barrel selection. As a result, Fanti continues to produce hallmark Southern Montalcino wines with the help of their surrounding terroir and passion for making approachable wines for new wine makers and seasoned pros alike.

Very dark in color, with aromas of raisin, blackberry jam, espresso and nuts. Full-bodied, with loads of powerful fruit and big, velvety tannins. Superconcentrated, layered and dense, with the structure of a great 1945 claret, such as Latour. Still a blockbuster. Spellbinding. Needs a little time. *Highly Recommended*

The 1999 Brunello di Montalcino, good as it is, is rather perplexing. A dark ruby in color with much black currant fruit, mocha, and vanilla on the nose, its sizeable and supple body and its lengthy, warm, and velvety finish are those of a high class wine, but not a wine which seems to have much to do with Sangiovese and Montalcino.

Rich, dark and lush, with liqueur-like aromas wafting upward from a sea of purple. An obvious entry into the 'modern' category of Brunello. There’s jammy, mouthcoating fruit and only modest acidity. Detractors may find it heavy and bruising, but fans will adore its weight and creaminess.

Very, very deep purplish crimson. Intense and dramatic nose. It's a firework! Lots of dramatic oak. In barrique from “nine months until it's perfect”, according to the winemaker. Very good for the modern style. Well balanced.

The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino immediately reminds you of the austerity and brawn inherent to this important category of wine. Brunello is released five years after the harvest precisely to allow complexity to develop in the bottle. That careful evolution has transpired nicely here. The wine shows dark plum and dried blackberry in a leading role, with spice, tar, tobacco and campfire ash at the back. The tannins are present but on the soft side, and the wine weighs in with medium-rich fruit weight. Some 51,000 bottles were made.

Sleek and focused, with a supple feel to the cherry, raspberry, hibiscus and chalky mineral flavors. Well-balanced, finishing with a crisp feel now that should stretch out nicely in time. Best from 2025 through 2042. 4,300 cases made, 2,000 cases imported.

The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino opens like a spice box full of exotic treasures. Steeped cherries, crushed cranberries, violet pastille, spiced blood orange and dusty rose can all be found as it opens in the glass. It splashes across the palate, full of energy and juicy in style, with a seductive core of ripe wild berry fruits and inner florals. This doesn't miss a beat, finishing amazingly fresh and vibrant, with nuances of blackberry and sour citrus framed by a subtle staining of fine tannins. Fanti really outdid themselves; the 2018 Brunello is a beauty.

Sour and cooked cherries, oranges, milk chocolate and red licorice. Fruity and succulent with a medium to full body and creamy tannins. Ripe and velvety finish.
