We have been fiercely independent, family owned winemakers since 1849, showcasing the best of the Barossa. For six generations we have embraced the magnificent unknown, letting the land lead the way, and growing our vines with as little interference as possible.

Yalumba started with the planting of vines in 1849, by founder Samuel Smith. Under the moonlight, in the heart of the Barossa, he set in place not just the first of many generations of vines, but a philosophy that still holds true today. A genuine respect for the land and a willingness to venture into the unknown.

We have always had a deep connection to the Barossa. Our long-term vision is manifested in our marble and sandstone Clocktower; a solid monument to our commitment to the region. Our Yalumba Cooperage also shows this passion. It is where we continue the proud tradition of crafting oak barrels and it is the only one of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere.

Yalumba Tri Centenary Barossa Grenache is produced from a dry bush vineyard planted in 1889, in the heart of the Barossa Valley. These ancient vines are rooted in deep sandy loam over reddish-brown clay soils with excellent drainage and nutrient supply. The Barossa Valley’s Mediterranean climate is characterised by warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters, providing optimal conditions for ripening grapes and helping them develop complex flavours.

Aromas of blueberries and wild herbs, as well as raspberries and a complex, spicy and fragrant edge. Blood orange and pomegranate here, too. The palate is smoothly emulsified and has red-cherry, raspberry, orange and blood-orange flavors. Pithy kick on the finish and plenty of concentration. Very resolved. 100 days on skins. Drink over the next decade.

From 130-year-old vines, this Grenache offers an enticing, intriguing perfume of strawberries still on their stems, cut flowers in water, vanilla bean and florals. The mid-weight palate is starting to show some bottle age, with slightly cooked red-berry-jam flavors, but there’s still a lick of juicy freshness and a tannic tug.

Polished, creamy and stylish, with framboise, maraschino cherry, raspberry puree and accents of clove, green tea, milk chocolate and rosemary on an elegant frame.

Pale ruby in color, this has aromas of dried herbs, such as sage and thyme, as well as capers, peppercorns, anchovies, mushrooms and sour cherries. It’s medium- to full-bodied, soft and full of flavor, with a creamy texture and attractive salty and herbal undertones. Very intense, while remaining gentle and elegant. Extended time (372 days) on the skins. From 130-year-old vines.

The 2022 The Tri-Centenary Grenache spent 372 days on the skins. In essence, the fruit is pressed off the day before they pick the next vintage. The wine doesn't see any oak during its élevage, and so the texture of the wine is derived from skins and seeds. To explain the process a little: the fruit is picked, destemmed and wild fermented for 10 days in tank. Once fermentation has finished, everything stays in situ, on skins, in that same open fermenter with a floating lid. Over time, the skins drop down to the bottom of the tank, and finally, when it is ready to be pressed off, the free run and pressings are blending, clarified, etc. and bottled. Voilà. So, on the nose, this 2022 leads with bergamot and graphite, strawberry and red apple skins. In the mouth, the wine is fresh and powdery, with an elegant framework of tannin and acid that intersect at the back of the palate in a chewy, ductile sort of fashion. This is lovely. I find myself liking it more and more.
