Chateau Vaugelas is located in the Hérault department of the Occitanie region of France, in the heart of the Languedoc AOP appellation. Adjacent to the ancient town of Béziers and backed by the Carruaux plateau, it is only 20 kilometers from the Mediterranean Sea. It enjoys the natural advantages of a Mediterranean climate while being sheltered from strong coastal winds and extreme weather thanks to the gentle slopes of the plateau, making it a rare and golden growing region in Languedoc.
The main building of the winery is a classic French castle built in the 17th century. Originally a private estate of local nobility, it boasts over 300 years of winemaking history. As early as the 18th century, its wines were already supplied to the aristocratic circles of southern France. After centuries of heritage and refinement, the winery was acquired by Bonfis Wines, a group deeply rooted in the Languedoc appellation for decades. A comprehensive upgrade and renovation then commenced: on the one hand, the historical architecture and traditional winemaking traditions of the castle were fully preserved; on the other hand, world-class modern winemaking equipment, a complete quality control system, and the group's top winemaking team were introduced, achieving a perfect fusion of traditional craftsmanship and modern technology.
As a core AOP winery under Vignobles Bonfils, one of France's top eight wine groups, Château Vogela differs from the group's Domaine de Cantaussels, which focuses on IGP-level wines. From its inception, Château Vogela has positioned itself as a high-end winery, specializing in Languedoc AOP wines. All its wines strictly adhere to the legal viticultural and winemaking standards of Languedoc AOP. Every bottle undergoes the entire process—from grape harvesting and vinification to aging and bottling—on-the-vineyard, ensuring 100% traceability. It is the core of Vignobles Bonfils' premium AOP product line and a representative winery of authentic Languedoc AOP wines.

The winery boasts 72 hectares of contiguous vineyards surrounding the château, with no fragmented plots, facilitating meticulous and unified management across the entire estate. All plots are situated on gentle south-facing slopes at an altitude of 120-180 meters, ensuring ample sunlight and excellent drainage—ideal terrain for grape cultivation. The vineyard's soil structure is primarily composed of clay, limestone, and topsoil gravel, a hallmark of the Languedoc AOP terroir. The underlying limestone bedrock not only imparts a unique minerality and terroir memory to the grapes but also provides a stable supply of trace minerals essential for growth. The middle layer of clay possesses excellent water and fertilizer retention capabilities, ensuring a continuous and stable supply of water and nutrients to the vines during the hot, dry Mediterranean summers, preventing dehydration. The topsoil gravel provides excellent drainage, quickly removing excess water during the rainy season to prevent root rot. It also reflects sunlight, providing additional light to the base of the vines, raising the overall vineyard temperature, and promoting the perfect ripening of phenolic compounds and flavor compounds.
Climatically, the area enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate with over 2200 hours of sunshine annually. Dry summers and mild, wet winters, combined with stable diurnal temperature variations, allow the vines to complete their ripening cycle slowly and evenly. Unlike grapes grown in coastal areas, which are prone to overripeness and insufficient acidity, the winery leverages the altitude of its gentle slopes at high altitude to maximize the diurnal temperature range. This allows the grapes to accumulate abundant sugar and flavor compounds while locking in a delicate natural acidity. The resulting wines possess both the full-bodied fruitiness of Mediterranean wines and an elegant balance and structure, completely shedding the common stereotype of Southern French wines as "heavy and monotonous."
In terms of viticultural management, the winery consistently adheres to the Bonfis Group's sustainable farming philosophy, achieving HVE3 high environmental value certification in France, with its core plots holding organic farming certification. The vineyard strictly controls grape yields, keeping the yield per hectare far below the Languedoc AOP legal limit, ensuring the concentration of flavor in the fruit from the source. A high-cup pruning method, adapted to the Mediterranean climate, is used to reduce the risk of disease and ensure each bunch of grapes receives even and ample sunlight. The core grape varieties planted are Languedoc AOP legal red grapes such as Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, as well as white grape varieties such as Viognier and Grenache Blanc. All varieties have undergone decades of terroir acclimatization to maximize their aroma and flavor potential.

The core winemaking logic of Château Vogela is "based on AOP legal standards, centered on terroir expression, and with delicate balance as its soul." Unlike some wineries in southern France that pursue a full-bodied wine and excessive oak aging, this winery adheres to the "less is more" philosophy, strictly following all Languedoc AOP regulations. With precise and restrained craftsmanship, they avoid excessive human intervention, maximizing the preservation of the terroir and the original aromas of the grape varieties to create wines that combine traditional heritage with modern drinking needs.
For different wine categories, the winery's winemaking team has developed customized, meticulous winemaking plans. The winemaking process for their flagship Le Rose rosé is a culmination of decades of experience, with "freshness preservation, purity, and elegance" as the core objectives, ensuring meticulous control at every stage.
