Domaine Ghislain Kohut is based in the small village of Couchey in the Côte de Nuits, within the Marsannay protected appellation. Winemaker Ghislain is a descendant of Polish immigrants. His grandfather, Théodore Kohut, arrived in northern France in 1932, later settling in Bourgogne and cultivating grapes. His father, Jacques Kohut, began viticulture at a young age, and his mother hails from a family in the wine industry in Nuits-Saint-Georges. Ghislain is the third generation to own the winery. He has always valued terroir and the natural environment, having pioneered organic viticulture in the 1980s and managing the winery since 1999. This Meix de la Poulotte is part of the Ghislain Kohut winery, a three-generation family-owned winery from Poland. This boutique domaine produces wines from 11 hectares of vineyards across several villages, including renowned vineyards like Echezeaux and Vosne-Romanée.

Known as the "Golden Gate" of the Porte d'Or, Marsannay is the northernmost appellation in the Côte du Nuit and the only one capable of producing both red, white, and rosé wines. Due to its northern location and lower slopes, the region enjoys a slightly cooler microclimate, resulting in lighter wines. However, this doesn't necessarily translate to quality. Renowned producer Jean Yves Bizot's Marsannay Clos du Roy wines, for example, can be found for an average price of $18,000 per Winesearcher. In 2020, the appellation was given a new Premier Cru classification, with Clos du Roy being one of them. Furthermore, the recent impact of global warming has allowed this previously cooler appellation to produce wines of perfectly ripened quality.

Ghislain Kohut has long been a committed organic and biodynamic grower, but he hasn't deliberately pursued imperfect organic certification. While biodynamics is a relatively new concept, he values ​​tradition, and many of his vineyard practices follow his father's methods, striving to achieve just the right balance.
