Founded in 1928, Terres Secretes, a cooperative deeply rooted in the Macon region, is known as Vignerons des Terres Secrètes (Secrets of Terroir). This cooperative values the connection between people, the land, and nature. It's through each farmer's understanding and dedication to their vineyards that they uncover the unique terroir of the Macon region and infuse each wine with its soul!

The cooperative's 120 winemakers work together, committed to sustainable development. Their vineyards cover over 910 hectares, with over 60% dedicated to Chardonnay. Their production is among the highest in the region, with annual sales of 6 million bottles, half of which are exported to 35 countries. This globally recognized cooperative is undoubtedly Burgundy's leading wine producer. This model of wine producer cooperatives is common across France and Europe. Cooperative members, typically vineyard owners, are responsible for transporting grapes, producing wine, and marketing the wine. Small winemakers, with limited land holdings, face significant challenges in producing and marketing their own wines. Therefore, joining a winemaking cooperative has become an option for many small winemakers, allowing them to share winemaking and marketing resources, and to share the costs of purchasing winemaking equipment and acquiring specialized expertise.
The Saint-Veran appellation lies at the southernmost tip of the Maconnais region, bordering Beaujolais. Its terroir, from north to south, differs significantly from that of Pouilly-Fuisse. The topsoil is primarily fossiliferous limestone. In the west, the soil is blue limestone overlain by a gray marl; on the eastern slopes, it's marly; and on the left bank of the Gronne River, it's covered by a flint-laden clay-limestone. The region's altitude ranges from 250 to 450 meters, with vines primarily planted on southeast-facing slopes that receive ample sunlight. As the southernmost region of Burgundy, the region enjoys a mild climate and is relatively immune to spring fog.
