Michael Cooper has been fortunate to live in Spain since he was 23. He moved there to be with Rosario, his partner in life. You could say that he went on an adventure for love an ‘Aventura Por Amor’.  He has had the opportunity to make wines in several wine regions, especially in Aragon, where he and his wife have built their own winery in Campo de Borja. Vinos del Viento, is a name inspired by the strong winds in the Ebro River Valley that can often reach 50 kilometers per hour, the ‘Cierzo’ wind.

Garnacha Empire – Campo de Borja DO

The Borja DO is a designated designation of origin (DO) in Aragon, located in the northwest of Zaragoza Province, between the Sistema lberlco Mountains (at the foot of the Moncayo Mountains) and the Ebro River Valley. Sixteen towns are scattered across this area. Compo means "land," and winemaking has been practiced here since Roman times, over 2,000 years ago. In the early 13th century, monks established the Veruela Monastery in the small town of Vera de Moncayo, near the Moncayo Mountains, introducing innovative grape cultivation and winemaking techniques. Beginning in the 19th century, vineyards and wineries were established in the hills surrounding the monastery. In the 1950s, as Spain suffered an economic depression, small wineries formed cooperatives to share production and marketing costs in order to survive. Because this cooperative focuses on quality and its wines are well-recognized, the Spanish government designated the Campo de Borja region as one of the Spanish wine legal production areas in 1980

The vineyards at an altitude of 800 meters, the grapes are harvested entirely by hand, fermented in stainless steel vats at 25 degrees Celsius, and then aged on lees in cement vats for four months, enhancing the complexity of the wine while retaining its vibrant freshness and softening the tannins. Only 5,000 bottles have been produced!
