Located in Cantenac, on the prestigious Margaux appellation, the history of the Ch ateau Prieuré Lichine began in the 15th century, when it was created by the Benedictine monks of the Abbey of Vertheuil in Médoc. Privatized in the French Revolution, the Ch ateau Prieuré of Cantenac has been owned by many families before being bought in 1951 by Alexis Lichine, Russian origin, great man of wine and words, author of the famous Encyclopedia of Wines and Alcohols. He renamed the estate in 1953, under the name of Ch ateau Prieuré Lichine. Thanks to a policy of patience and obstinacy, he gave his estate new terroirs, modernises existing facilities and rebuilds the former house. The castle links its destiny to the Lichine family for nearly half a century. In 1999, this 70 hectare vineyard became property of the Ballande family. Advised by Stéphane Derenoncourt, the estate continues its history by taking a new impulse, resolutely turned towards the future.
Representing the Margaux appellation, the terroir of the Ch ateau Prieuré Lichine vineyard is essentially composed of gravel deposited by the river during the successive ice breakers of the Quaternary. In its cultural practices as in its choice of grape varieties, the technical team of the Ch ateau Prieuré Lichine is guided by the concern to: perpetuate the virtues of its soil and valorize its expression to the best. The grape variety is made in the purest Medocan tradition: Cabernet Sauvignon , Merlot and Petit Verdot. The vineyard of Ch ateau Prieuré Lichine is harvested manually to preserve the quality of the grapes. In order to select the most qualitative berries sorting on a cluster is followed by grain to grain sorting since 2009. The vatting, without crushing since 1999, takes place in concrete or stainless steel tanks of different sizes according to the characteristics of each. parcel.
The modernity and fruitiness of a Second Wine with a savoury and charming structure, recalling the elegance typical of Margaux. Produced from younger vines, it is harvested, vinified and aged with the same care as the Grand Cru.
