We will find in each bottle of Latour Martillac one of the most refined and elegant wines of Pessac Leognan
This wine is a classic of Pessac Leognan, which seduces all types of consumers
An exceptional terroir similar to some famous Grands Crus Classes from Pessac Leognan
A very strong historical mark
An extremely reasonable price for a wine of this quality
The red wine is very well balanced with pronounced colors, marked by very intense notes of fresh and juicy red and black fruits. The tannins are powerful, smooth, velvety and coated.
Very nice scores every year
Classified as early as 1953, Chateau Latour-Martillac owes its name and history to the tower adorning its main courtyard, a remnant of a fort built in Martillac in the 12th century by the ancestors of the famous philosopher Montesquieu. This estate attracted the attention of Edouard Kressmann, a merchant in Bordeaux since 1871, especially for the quality of his white wines. His eldest son, Alfred, bought the estate in 1930 and developed the red vineyard, with his son Jean, on the remarkable gravelly ridge of the village of Martillac. Together they draw the original label, barred with gold and sand, which adorns the bottles since 1934. The vintage 1934 was chosen, in red, by the Wine and Spirit Benevolent Society of London for the banquet of the coronation of his Majesty George VI King of England in 1936. Today, Loïc and Tristan Kressmann, the last two sons of Jean Kressmann, assisted by the best oenologists consultants from Bordeaux, continue the family tradition to make the most of this Chateau.
In this authentic Graves terroir, the Kressmann family has rebalanced the proportion of white grapes by adding Sauvignon, harmoniously complementing the historic Semillons and Muscadelle vineyards. In red, the blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (53%) and Merlot (42%) is complemented by excellent Petit Verdots (5%), located on one of the best ridges of Martillac. The vineyard is carefully cared for in order to facilitate the ripening of the best grapes and to control the yield of the plots. The harvest is entirely manual. The perfect control of the temperatures at the different stages of the winemaking process makes it possible to express the best of the different grape varieties. For red wines, the aging takes place during 15 to 18 months in French oak barrels, renewed by third each year. In the case of white wines, they are grown with only one third of new oak, and a prolonged aging on lees.
At the tasting, Chateau Latour-Martillac offers a woody wine without excess, with aromas of cassis and cocoa.
