Craggy Range Winery was founded in 1998 by Australian businessman Terry Peabody and Master of Wine Steven Smith, whose winemaker, Steven Smith MW, is the world's first Master of Wine with expertise in viticulture. Even Robert Parker rated Craggy Range a top-tier 5-star winery, and all of his top 3 New Zealand wines come from Craggy Range.
In 2009, a blind tasting competition themed "New Zealand vs. Bordeaux" was held in San Francisco, judged by globally renowned figures including Wine Spectator editors, Masters of Wine, and sommeliers. Craggy Range Sophia 2007 won first place, successfully beating several top Bordeaux wines, including Mouton Rothschild 2006.


Marlborough is New Zealand's most important wine region, renowned for its aromatic Sauvignon Blanc, but in recent years it has also become a prominent producer of aromatic Pinot Noir.
Starting with Marlborough, it's New Zealand's largest wine region, covering nearly 30,000 hectares, accounting for two-thirds of the country's total. However, Pinot Noir only occupies about 2,700 hectares, representing approximately 10% of the region's production.
While Martinborough is smaller, comprising only 3% of New Zealand's total wine region, it, along with Masterton and Gladstone, is famous for its concentrated and elegant Pinot Noir, and is considered the most renowned among them, a hub for top-tier boutique wineries. Located just an hour's drive from the capital, Wellington, it's also a popular tourist destination.


Craggy Range Winery is renowned for its focus on the terroir of its single vineyards, employing meticulous winemaking techniques to produce high-quality wines.
The winemakers utilize a variety of fermentation vessels, including stainless steel, ceramic, terracotta, and oak barrels, to individually process different batches of grapes, highlighting the unique style of each wine.
The winery precisely controls the humidity and temperature in its cellars to ensure the wines mature under ideal conditions, resulting in a more balanced flavor and structure.
The winemakers use high-tech monitoring systems to collect data for precise winemaking decisions, while adhering to a policy of minimal oak use to showcase the pure flavors of the grapes.

Brick red and maroon in colour. Spiced fruit aromatics with notes of plum, cherry, blueberry and scented wood. A velvety feel on the palate with ripe rounded tannins leaving the lovely sweet fruited core well poised.
