Clos Marsalette was founded in 2002 by Francis Boutemy. Francis Boutemy already had extensive experience in Bordeaux, having owned the neighboring Chateau Haut Lagrange. In fact, Francis Boutemy comes from a wine family; his grandfather, Jacques Guillemaud, was both a wine merchant and the owner of Chateau Larrivet HautBrion, also located in Pessac Leognan.
Currently, the estate is jointly owned by Stephan von Neipperg and Didier Miqueu. Stephan von Neipperg is one of the world's most sought-after winemakers, serving as a consultant for dozens of wineries in over a dozen countries worldwide. He is best known for his work at Chateau Saint Emilion. The wineries include a series of top Right Bank estates such as Canon La Gaffeliere, La Mondotte, D'Aiguilhe, Peyreau, and Clos de l'Oratorie, and also jointly own Chateau Guiraud, a classified growth in Sauternes, making them extremely important in Bordeaux.

The Clos Marsalette vineyards, covering 6.26 hectares, are situated on alluvial mounds formed by the Garonne deposits in the Martillac region. The soils consist of sandy marl, light yellowish-brown sand, and clay, formed from marine sediments dating back to the Miocene and Pliocene epochs (5-15 million years ago). The vineyards cultivate Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc red grape varieties on 5.46 hectares, and Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon white grape varieties on 0.8 hectares. The average age of the vines is 16 years. The vineyards employ strict management of pruning, thinning, and flower thinning to control grape yield.

The wine is made from sustainably hand-harvested grapes grown on gravel/clay soils. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks and new oak barrels, followed by aging on lees for 6–9 months. The 2022 vintage is known for its intense aromas, with notes of peach and citrus and a creamy palate.
