In 1796, Emmanuel Courvoisier and his business partner Louis Gallois founded Gallois Cellars, a wine and spirits company in the suburbs of Paris. In 1964, Courvoisier was acquired by Canadian company Hiram Walker. In 1983, Courvoisier was awarded the French "Prestige de la France" and is the only Cognac house to win this award so far.
