Louis Michel et Fils Chablis

超過 170年的 Chablis 老牌酒莊 Robert Parker 盛讚最優秀的 Chablis

Louis Michel et Fils Chablis is an old estate that highly values the natural style of its wines. Since 1850, the Michel family has dedicated themselves to the captivating terroir of Chablis and the production of exquisite white wines. Located in the heart of Chablis village, the estate's vineyards span 25 hectares, dating back to the 11th century when they were established by monastic monks.

This long-established Chablis winery, family-run since 1850, has steadily built its reputation step by step. Currently managed by Guillaume Michel, the family business maintains a pure style. Even though the winery owns three Chablis Grand Cru vineyards known for their rich wines—Les Clos, Grenouilles (Frog Vineyard), and Vaudesir—the winery's philosophy remains consistent: forgoing oak barrels to showcase the unique characteristics of the Chablis terroir—its crispness, characteristic of a cool, limestone-clay environment. Furthermore, the wines from this estate are not sharp in acidity but rather fruit-rich, making them a prime example for Chablis enthusiasts of wines that can age without oak.

Montmains, a Premier Cru vineyard located on the Left Bank, covers 98 hectares and is the third largest Premier Cru vineyard. All vineyards face southeast and comprise three Climats: Montmains, Les Forets, and Les Butteaux. Its southeast-facing orientation allows it to better absorb sunlight, easily placing it among the top three best terroirs on the Left Bank. It stands out for its structure and fleshy texture, possessing excellent complexity and a hint of nutty flavor.

Since Guillaume took over Domaine Louis Michel et Fils in 2006, they have become experts in "barrel-free Chablis," expressing the original terroir with native yeasts, resulting in a robust yet not overly voluminous wine. The winery has invested heavily in three state-of-the-art pneumatic presses, pressing the grapes into tanks as quickly as possible after harvesting. The total volume of the stainless steel tanks is an astonishing 380,000 liters. After all, it must simultaneously house two vintages of new wine during fermentation and aging; although there are no oak barrels, the necessary equipment is plentiful.

Forty years ago, the Michel family decided to abandon the use of oak barrels, aiming to produce a pure and crisp Chablis. Through such persistence, continuous experimentation, and proactive production control, Louis 'Michel is now not only a renowned estate on the international stage but also a pioneer in producing exceptional wines in stainless steel tanks. Stylistically, the estate's wines are not the sharp, avant-garde typical of Chablis, but rather smooth and full-bodied masterpieces, like a clear, resonant song echoing through the valley. Today, the estate is managed by a younger generation, continuing its flowing, refreshing style.
