Tenuta San Guido is located in the Bolgheri seaside area of Tuscany, Italy. The Sassicaia wine produced in the winery is known as the king of Italian wines and enjoys the reputation of "Italian Lafite".
Super Torto King of Tuscany Sassicaia. Sanguito Winery is the only one in Italy and the only one in the world with only one winery in the legal production area "DOC Sassicaia". It is rated as one of the greatest wineries in the world by Robert Parker. The Italian Restaurant Association even commented that Sassicaia is " The King of Italian Wine in the 20th Century". Throughout 1985, only six wines in the world received the honor of Robert Parker's full score. Italy's Sassicaia scored far behind the five major Bordeaux wineries, and the price was less than half!
Mario Incisa della Rocchetta is the founder of Tenuta San Guido. He loves wine, horse racing and environmental protection. He has always dreamed of making a wine of excellent quality, an Italian wine that can be popular among the upper class, preferably in the Bordeaux style. In the 1940s, Marquis Mario and his wife settled in Tenuta San Guido. He kept experimenting with this high-quality soil and finally made the groundbreaking innovation of using Cabernet Sauvignon to make wine. , became the "first person to eat crabs".
Tenuta San Guido made Sassicaia wine from 1948 to the mid-1960s. In the early days, Sassicaia was just a toy of the Marquis. The wine was brewed for personal use and to entertain relatives and friends, and there were no detailed records. All the time, the reports I have seen are that the year of the first Sassicaia released was 1948. Even the official website of the winery says this, but when you visit the winery, you will see that a bottle of Sassicaia is so precious. 1945 on the wall for display!
By 1968, it was a year worth remembering. This year, Sassicaia, which has been continuously improved, was launched for the first time. When Sassicaia was launched, the Italian wine region regulatory regulations DOC had been introduced. Since it did not meet the requirements of Chianti, it could only be dialed into the lowest level Vino da Tavola. In that year's international blind tasting competition, Sassicaia's outstanding performance shocked the entire wine world. Its popularity is comparable to that of Bordeaux's top chateau wines.
Tenuta San Guido's vineyard covers an area of 173 acres (approximately 70 hectares), all located in the Sassicaia DOC production area. The garden is planted with 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc (Cabernet Franc). The average age of grapevines is 25-30 years, the planting density is 4,000-5,000 plants/hectare, and the average yield is 1 kg/plant.
The wines of Tenuta San Guido are produced in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats with a capacity of between 3,500 liters and 11,000 liters. The maceration time is approximately 2 weeks. Aging is carried out in 33% new French oak barrels with a capacity of 225 liters for 2 years.
