Domaine Vincent Dauvissat is one of the most sought-after wineries in Chablis, ranking alongside Raveneau as one of the two kings of the Chablis appellation. Its 2017 Grand Cru Les Preuses received a perfect score of 100 points from Vinous.
The British magazine Decanter once published a list of "100 wines to try before you die," and Domaine Vincent Dauvissat was included in Chablis. The long-established wine publication La Revue du Vin de France (RVF) lists it among its top ten selections of Burgundy white wines.
Domaine Vincent Dauvissat, a Chablis winery, has been the product of three generations of hard work. Founded in 1920 by Robert Dauvissat, it was further developed by the next generation, Rene, before being taken over by his son Vincent in 1976. Together, father and son have established the winery's current reputation. The older wines were all labeled Rene Vincent Dauvissat, but the winery is now called Vincent Dauvissat.
Owner Vincent Dauvissat is a passionate and talented winemaker. His approach to viticulture isn't officially organic, but it's very close; he highly values the naturalness of the wine, and all grapes are hand-harvested. All the time he spends nurturing the grapes is fully expressed in his wines. The winery still uses cellars inherited from the 17th century, and generations of successors adhere to traditional winemaking methods, using barrels sparingly and wisely. Only a portion of the grapes are fermented in oak barrels, specifically 6-8 year old barrels; the rest are treated in metal tanks to preserve the fruit aromas. The final result is reminiscent of top Blanc wines from southern Burgundy, yet retains the brilliant brightness and intensity of Chablis. The estate uses hand-harvesting, without destemming or filtering, and since 2002 has employed biodynamic methods, minimizing human intervention to preserve the wine's aromas. The resulting white wines are textbook examples of crispness, purity, and complexity, with a unique minerality.
Domaine Vincent Dauvissat owns exceptional old vineyard plots and vineyards in Chablis, such as Les Clos and Les Preuses, both Grand Cru vineyards. Its Premier Cru vineyards, La Forest, Sechet, Vaillons, and Montmains, are equally outstanding. Even its Petit Chablis, a more accessible wine, is considered one of the most expensive Petit Chablis.
