ABOUT RATHFINNY
Rathfinny Estate in East Sussex was foundedin 2010 by husband and wife, Mark and Sarah Driver. Once a working arable farm,the first vines were planted in 2012 and today Rathfinny comprises over 200acres of predominantly Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier.
Rathfinny Estate is located in the SouthDowns National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty in Southern England.It occupies the main part of Cradle Valley, on a south-facing slope close tothe iconic Cuckmere Valley, just three miles from the sea and the famous SevenSisters cliffs, about a half a mile south of Alfriston village.
As well as being a stunning site, theRathfinny vineyard is perfect for growing sparkling wine grapes: The light,thin, clay loam soils over chalk are free draining and very similar to theChampagne region of France. The chalk provides a ready source of water for thevines during the drier summer months. The warm semi-continental climate andlong summer days ensure perfect ripening, and the proximity to the sea helpsmitigate frost risk, a major problem in cooler climate vineyards in northernEurope.

Rathfinny Blanc de Noirs 2016 is the secondvintage of our signature Sussex Sparkling, made from predominantly Pinot Noirgrapes grown and hand-harvested on the Rathfinny Wine Estate.

FOOD MATCH. Rathfinny’s signature sparklingpairs to perfection with duck rillettes or rare-cooked venison steaks, andboasts enough depth to accommodate the hot and sticky notes of Vietnamese-stylecaramel pork.

The 2016 Blanc de Noirs is aged for 36months in bottle with a dosage of 3g/L. It has a burnished silvery hue. Thewell-delineated nose is an absolute delight, presenting scents of orange pith,brioche, toasted pine nuts and a hint of white peach in the background. Thepalate is well poised with a light walnut opening, quite saline in the mouthand precise toward the finish; a touch of blackberry appears on the aftertaste.Impressive energy and sophistication are clear to see in what might be one ofEngland's best Blanc de Noirs. Highly recommended.

Undoubtedly the star of the line-up, youcan tell that owner Mark Driver's passion is for a Pinot-dominated style – hecites Bollinger as an inspiration. Here, 91% Pinot Noir, 6% Pinot Meunier and3% Chardonnay are given 36 months bottle age and a 3g/L dosage. A lovely deeprose gold in the glass, this has a great purity of juicy red fruit – you canpick out flavours of red apple, plum and cherry. Brioche too. There's atextured quality to it that is reminiscent of fruit skins, and it gets evenbetter if you leave it to open up further in the glass. Ripe, yet fresh andelegant. Would be equally good with charcuterie, meaty fish or strawberries andcream.
