 前陣子參加左由Wine Australia 與 Corvino Wine School 舉辦的 Margaret River Masterclass ，在堂上深深體會到為何Margaret River 由一個新興產區在短短五十年間冒升至澳州最頂級的產區，產量只佔澳州2% ，但卻佔據澳州最Premium酒的20% ，屢屢在葡萄酒比賽擊敗比多佢長幾倍發展歷史的產區，贏得眾多的 Best Cabernet Sauvignon 與 Best Chardonnay。Margaret River 被形容為澳州的 Margaux，她的優雅細膩、Floral 和 Midway palate ，跟南澳的 Meaty 、重Mint、Fruit forward 和 Fully bodied 形成了很強的對比。

所以一係唔試，一試就試產區最具代表性的Icon酒莊，今次推薦是產區始創五間酒莊之一 - Leeuwin Estate, package超強，曾被Wine & Spirits評為International Wineries of the year, James Haillday red 5 star + Top 100，由會計師 Denis & Trish Horgan 於1973年創立。在很早期美國葡萄酒巨頭 Robert Mondavi 已睇中 Leeuwin 的葡萄園，認為是釀造頂級酒的最佳地方，繼而向 Leeuwin 提出收購，計數精明的 Denis & Trish Horgan 當然不會錯過 Margaret River 日後的無限潛能，故提出以 Joint Venture 方式與 Robert Mondavi 合作，得到了葡萄酒巨頭參與，引入種植Chardonnay ，成就了Leeuwin Chardonnay 在1979年誔生，相隔兩年便擊敗全球所有對手拎走Decanter Best Chardonnay ，其後此酒經常入選Wine Spectator 百大酒款，更是 Langtons 分級制當中被評為 Exceptional 全澳州最頂級22款酒之一。酒莊的 Cabernet Sauvignon 也同樣位列 Langton 分級的第二級 Outstanding ，全澳州最top 的46款酒之一 ，可以說酒莊的出品紅白皆精，位列澳州頂級葡萄酒之列！

It’s masterful to craft a wine that is structured, detailed, powerful and concentrated, and yet, it feels effortless. Mulberries, cassis, warm spices, violets and cedary oak come together in harmony while the tannins sashay across the palate. Flavours persist, as does the finish, and it will age beautifully but hard to resist now. Impressive wine.

The 2019 Art Series Cabernet Sauvignon has admirable fruit presence in the mouth. As an immediate follow on from the great 2018 vintage, the 2019 vintage was cooler and weter, but the average quality across the region was excellent. In many corners, the quality is argued as being on par with the 2019; it comes down to a mater of preference. Here, the wine is elegant and fine, very aromatic. It's an excellent wine and a clear statement about the direction and refinement of the Cabernet program at Leeuwin.

Gosh this is good. This is the region and the variety and the estate all committing to the task and combining to exemplary effect. Such structure, such fruit, such balance and such impact. Blackcurrant and pencils, dark chocolate and herbs, some eucalypt lift and even some florals. Tannin, my word, it’s beautifully formed, a keel with wings, a determinant. I kept tasting this wine and it kept telling me things. Leeuwin Estate cabernet is now right up there with the best.
