Serralunga d'Alba

Barolo 巴羅洛五大名村之一

Serralunga d'Alba is located in the easternmost part of the Barolo production area, connecting with Diano d'Alba, Castiglione Falletto and Monforte d'Alba from north to south. Serralunga d'Alba has 202 hectares of vineyards, and its annual wine production is second only to La Morra, ranking second.

The village has largely retained its medieval appearance, with castles, terraced fields and ancient buildings attracting many tourists every year. Serralunga d'Alba takes its name from "Sera Longa", which means "tall", referring to the tall castle upon which the village was originally founded.

Terroir and Wine Style

Barolo has two well-known soils, the blue-gray clay, limestone and sand formed in the Tortonian Stage (approx. 7-11 million years ago) to the west and the Helvetian Stage (approx. Front) brown-yellow limestone, marl and chalk with high iron content. La Morra, to the west, is dominated by the former soil, while Serralunga d'Alba is almost entirely of the latter.

Barolo terroirs are extremely complex and cannot be generalized, especially Serralunga d'Alba. Here, the altitude is higher, the terrain is changeable, and the changing combination of different slopes, orientations and soils brings a very rich and colorful style to the wine. The tannins are smoother and more powerful. In general, the Barolo of Serralunga d'Alba has aromas of red fruits, roses, violets, tar, leather and tobacco, complex and balanced. When young, the tannins are very obvious and the taste is sharp. After several years to decades of bottle aging The rear can show the delicacy and layers.

Top vineyard

Decades ago, there were only a few wineries in the Barolo region, so most growers sold their grapes to middlemen. When buying, if the grapes come from some large villages, the middlemen usually ask about the specific location of the vineyard, but if they come from Serralunga d'Alba, they often buy them at a high price without hesitation - the name of Serralunga d'Alba There are many vineyards, all of which are stable, and almost never produce disappointing wines.

1. Lazzarito

Located in the center of the village of Serralunga d'Alba, Lazzarito has been awarded the highest level of 1er Category vineyards in the Barolo classification of the famous Italian winemaker Renato Ratti. The soil of Lazzarito is mainly limestone and red clay. The park can be divided into east and west parts. The western part has better terroir, and the wines produced have the best aging potential among Barolo wines.

2. Francia

Francia, formerly known as Cascina Francia, was used to plant varieties such as Barbera) and Dolcetto in the early days. It was bought by Giacomo Conterno of the famous village of Monforte d'Alba in 1974 and changed to Nebbiolo. The vineyard, which is home to Giacomo Conterno's flagship wine, Monfortino, has proven to have unimaginable potential. The average score of this wine over the years is as high as 95 points, and it is also one of the most expensive wines in Italy. It is one of the strong contenders for the title of Italian Old School Wine King.

3. Falletto

Although the name of Falletto overlaps with the village of Castiglione Falletto, it is actually the top vineyard of Serralunga d'Alba. Falletto is often equated with Bruno Giacosa, the legendary winery in the village of Castiglione Falletto, and the Barolo from this vineyard is Bruno Giacosa's most majestic wine.

4.Vigna Rionda

"Vigna Rionda" means "round vineyard", covered with marl, limestone and a small part of sandstone, facing southwest. For many wine lovers, Vigna Rionda is synonymous with Serralunga d'Alba. In Serralunga d'Alba and even Barolo, Vigna Riond is one of the top vineyards.

Famous village

La Morra is the stronghold of new-school wineries, while Serralunga d'Alba's wineries are mainly old-school. Among the five famous villages, although Serralunga d'Alba does not have a world-famous winery, the overall quality of its wine undoubtedly ranks first.

1. Fontanafredda

2. Cappellano

3. Massolino
