The BenRiach is situated in the centre of Speyside, Scotland, in rolling barley fields, fed by the Burnside Spring below the distillery. Before the distillery was established in 1898, founder John Duff travelled to Scotland and abroad on his whisky adventures. These adventures and the spirit of the company have led to BenRiach's innovative distillation and cask culture artistry.
BenRiach had been producing Malt Whisky since 1898, but two years later came the hardest time in the whisky industry: the 'Pattison Crash', a serious event that led to the closure of many distilleries, including unfortunately BenRiach. This severe event led to the closure of many distilleries, including unfortunately BenRiach, which would have faced demolition in such dire circumstances, but fortunately BenRiach was supported by its sister distillery, Longmorn, of which it became the maltster, and BenRiach survived the crisis.
The Scotch whisky industry was restored to glory in 1965, and BenRiach rode the wave and began to produce whisky again. 2004 was the most important moment in BenRiach's history, when the distillery was acquired and became an independent distillery. This also allowed BenRiach to experiment with an interesting variety of cask culture methods and to continue to produce both peated and non-peated malt whiskies.
Through the skill and experience of the master distillers, special techniques, unique distillation vessel shapes, and high quality barrel culture, BenRiach has come to define BenRiach and embody the original adventurous spirit of founder John Duff.
Since June 2016, Benriach, Glendronach and Glenglassaugh have been part of Brown-Forman Corporation.
The Original Ten is the flagship expression of Benriach Speyside single malt. Matured in sherry casks, bourbon barrels and virgin oak casks, this expression is married together under the expert care of Master Blender, Rachel Barrie. Inspired by the very first single malt released by Benriach in 1994, this 10-year-old has a smooth and multi-layered profile that is the perfect introduction to the Benriach range.
The nose is rich in orchard fruits, with honey and warm toasted oak notes. The fruits continue in the palate with pear and nectarine atop a malty sweetness. The finish has almonds and spiced vanilla lingering on.
