Chateau Angelus is located overlooking three local churches. In the middle of this special spot, the sound is amplified and the prayer bells can be heard morning, noon and evening. They arranged the day's work in the vineyards and villages, calling on men and women to stop their work and pray for a few minutes. The great French Impressionist Jean-François Millet immortalized this moment of prayer in his magnificent work The Vespers. The winery therefore uses three golden bells as the wine label design.
The winery’s history can be traced back to Georges Boüard, a Bordeaux merchant born in 1544. The Boüard family has owned the winery since 1782. In 1954, when the Saint-Emilion region was first classified, Château La Grand-Ange was rated as a Grands Crus Classes. Since then, the winery has continued to develop and progress. In 1985, the seventh generation of the family, Hubert de Bouard de Laforest, took over the management of the estate. Two years later, his cousin Jean-Bernard Grenie also joined the ranks of winery managers to further help improve the quality of the estate's wines. In the 1996 Saint-Emilion classified winery rating, Château Angélus was successfully upgraded to Premiers Grands Crus Classes B. In 2012, thanks to its outstanding performance, the winery was promoted from a First Class B winery to a First Class A winery in Saint-Emilion, and is on par with the famous Chateau Cheval Blanc, Chateau Ausone and Chateau Pavie.
Currently, Château Grand Belle has been passed down to the eighth-generation heir Stephanie de Bouard-Rivoal and her cousin Thierry Grenie-de Bouard. The vineyards of Admiralty Vineyard cover a total area of more than 40 acres, located on the south-facing hillside and foot of the slope, in the center of a circular climate zone shaped like a terrace. The region has ideal grape conditions, with extremely hot summers that promote perfect ripeness of the grapes. Thanks to the slope, the soil is able to drain naturally. The vineyards are mainly planted with Merlot on clay-based soils, Cabernet Franc on clay-covered sandy limestone soils, and Cabernet and Petit Verdot at a ratio not exceeding 5%. Planted in covered soil at the foot of the slope. The unique terroir gives the wines produced here balance and rich, diverse flavors.
Carillon d'Angelus is the second wine of the famous Saint Emilion winery Chateau Angelus. Chateau Angelus is the result of the passionate work of eight generations of the Bouard Laforest family. The Angelus style is a combination of assertive vines and unique terroir. For many years, we have liked to use a high proportion of Cabernet Franc. The taste is rich, rich, ripe, gorgeous and forward, with all the sweet, ripe plum, cherry, licorice and cocoa flavors as smooth as silk on the mouth.

Wild-strawberry, blackberry and blueberry aromaswith some spices and herbs. It’s full-bodied with a balance of firm yet eleganttannins. The savory mid-palate leads to a clean finale with serious length.Hard not to drink this now, but it needs four or five years to show its trueexcellence. Second wine of Angelus.

Composed of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, themedium to deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Le Carillon d'Angélus rolls out ofthe glass with upfront notions of baked plums, stewed black cherries andraspberry pie, plus suggestions of potpourri, Chinese five spice, tilled soiland tobacco leaf. The medium to full-bodied palate is generous and spicy, supported by soft tannins and just enough freshness, finishing savory.
