Charm and mystery. It is not known forsure, but it is thought that Cascina Faletta was built in 1881. This issuggested by the original ceramic plaque which bears that date, still fixed tothe entrance gate. This first element announces the precise intention of theowners, Elena Novarino and Giovanni Rosso: to preserve the traces of the past.A meticulous renovation, for example, has given new life to the original floorsand ceilings. Even the items of furniture, individually selected by Elena, arevintage. Recovery, as a modus operandi, is testimony to the owners’ respect forFaletta’s soul. A location that is strongly marked by its history, by thecharacters who have inhabited it over time, such as Marchesa Virginia, thoughtto be its first owner.
A location surrounded by vineyards: onedocument certifies that in as early as 1957 Faletta was awarded 500,000 Lirefor being considered a winery of excellence. Elena and Giovanni continue, tenaciouslyand passionately, the project begun by their grandparents… It was preciselytheir ancestors who worked the surrounding lands from the 1920s. Indigenous andinternational vines now produce whites, reds and sparkling wines obtained withthe Classic Method. Every label has its history, starting with the logo with 3crossed rifles. This choice was the result of an extraordinary discovery:during the renovation, three rifles were found in a dark and hidden room. Theywere 91 Carcano models, still loaded with 6.5 calibre ammunition, wrapped inthe pages of the newspaper Uomo Qualunque (Common Man’s Front), the publicationof the homonymous Movement founded by Guglielmo Giannini, dated First ofJanuary 1947.
Still today, there is mystery surroundinghow these weapons came to be found at Cascina. A mystery that seduces andfascinates to the point that the Pinot Nero was named precisely that, 3 Fucili(3 Rifles). The Rosso di Rosso, Primo Bianco and Braja also have on their labelsa copy of the historic newspaper. The sparkling wine, the Marchesa Virginia, onthe other hand, is in homage to the woman thought to be the Estate’s firstowner. Then there is the Myricae white wine, named as such because thehomonymous and very famous collection of poems by Giovanni Pascoli tells oflife in the fields. The wines can be purchased directly from Cascina Falettaand the cosy room alongside the wine cellar is available for anybody wanting totaste them.
In the first hills of Monferrato Casaleseis the “Bricco del Mandorlo” vineyard from which the grapes of our Pinot Noircome from. Aging in large barrels gives maximum expression to a noble andelegant vine that always gives great emotions.
On the palate, it has a decisive flavourwith balanced tannins and good persistence. To the nose, we find hints of redfruits, spicy juniper and white pepper with pleasant floral notes. Initiallycomplex and intense, with an elegant and delicate finale.
