Charles Heidsieck, founded in 1851, is recognised as the producer of some of the Champagne region's most exceptional and sought-after wines. Under the oenological direction of highly-awarded Director of Winemaking for Piper-Heidsieck and Charles Heidsieck, Regis Camus - and Charles Heidsieck Chef de Caves, Cyril Brun - the Charles Heidsieck champagnes have developed an enviable reputation for quality amongst champagne connoisseurs around the world. Charles Heidsieck is a champagne recognised most often by the profession. The awards are of course bestowed on the winemakers who have been named Sparkling Winemaker of the Year twelve times in just eighteen years. It is only logical that, in parallel to their work, the champagnes themselves have received 11 Grand Gold Medals, 101 Gold medals (37 between 2008 and 2011), 25 Silver medals and not less than 32 trophies. This eminent list of medals has honoured both the prestigious "Blanc des Millenaires", which received 98/100 from Gilbert and Gaillard in 2010 as well as the emblematic Brut Reserve, crowned "Wine of the Year" by Bettane and Desseauve in 2012. At Charles Heidsieck, Blanc is a universe, a dazzling reflection of the House’s daring achievements. A diamond amongst Charles Heidsieck cuvees, the Blanc des Millénaires takes its incomparable nuances from the pale surroundings of the thousand-year-old Crayères, or chalk cellars. Because of their exceptional qualities, few Blancs de Blancs will reach this level of excellence.
“Blanc des Millénaires”: this exceptional cuvée is named in honor of its ageing conditions. Acquired more than 150 years ago by the founder, the thousand-year old crayères of the House hold a central space in the creation of this cuvée such as time, fourth varietal of the House.
In 1993, Charles Heidsieck presents for the first time Blanc des Millénaires in its prestigious vintage 1983. It was at the time the affirmation of a know-how in the elaboration of Blanc de Blancs (the oldest being from 1949), and the will to affirm a style.
Since then, the House has revealed only seven vintages have seen the light of day: 1985, 1990, 1995, 2004, 2006, 2007

Blancs des Millénaires are Blanc de Blancs produced from the best Chardonnays, deeply rooted in the unique terroir of the Côte des Blancs which owes its name to the distinctive characteristic of being made with over 95% of Chardonnay grapes.
It is a treasured gem of an area, its vineyards give birth to elegant wines with superb finesse and liveliness.
Just five of the main crus from the Côte des Blancs, comprising four Grands Crus and one Premier Cru are painstakingly selected for their ability to develop as well as to fully express their richness once mature.
The terroir of Oger for its finesse and smoothness, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger for its structure, Avize for its minerality, Cramant for its complexity, and Vertus for its vibrancy and floral notes.

A textbook blanc de blancs in a relatively opulent style, with ample grilled nut, brioche and spice character alongside classic flavors of poached apricot, kumquat, oyster shell and lemon blossom. This rich profile is well-defined by racy acidity, sleek and well-cut, driving the long, lacy finish. A beauty. Drink now through 2035. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.

Rippling with ripe stone-fruit and citrus aromas, plus notes of buttered toast and chalk, this is both powerful and mouthwatering, with enough structure to carry its imposing stature. The lemony finish is at once creamy and saline. A Blanc de Blancs from 5 top Crus in the Côte des Blancs.

Recently disgorged with seven grams per liter dosage, the 2006 Brut Blanc de Blancs Blanc des Millénaires is expressive and charming, in keeping with the sunny, demonstrative style of the vintage. Offering up aromas of toasted brioche, honeycomb, yellow apples and preserved citrus, it's full-bodied, fleshy and textural, with a rich core of fruit, ripe acids and an attractive pinpoint mousse. It's already drinking well, and I'd be inclined to approach it sooner than the more tightly wound 2004 rendition.

The 2006 Blanc des Millenaires is a rich, punchy Champagne that captures all of the radiant intensity of this warm year. Apricot, lemon confit and tropical accents bring out the more extroverted side of Chardonnay. Warm, toasty brioche notes add to its considerable appeal. This is a terrific showing. Best of all, the 2006 will drink well right out of the gate.
