The vineyard of Rose Perrière is located in the village of Lussac. They are monks who, established in a convent, planted the first vines in the Middle Ages. The vineyard owes its name to the water stream known as "La Perrière", the word "Pierrière" - stone quarries. With an area of 14 hectares, the vines benefit from a well-drained clay-limestone subsoil. Jean-Luc Sylvain, renowned cooper of the Bordeaux right bank, bought the property in 2003 and undertakes major renovations of the cellar, storage buildings and vineyards.

We must go back 4 generations to understand the origins of this family passionate about wine and wood. It is from his grandfather, Pierre, that Jean-Luc Sylvain saw the birth of his passion. In 1961, his grandfather acquired his first vines. Of these plots, the property produces the Grand Cru "Clos Les Grandes Versannes" under the name Saint-Émilion.

Thanks to a family know-how and their knowledge, it is a part of the Sylvain family that works today to produce wines of exceptional quality. Indeed, there is little Claire, engineer in biology chemistry and Rémi, graduate of the Ecole Supérieure du Bois, have also chosen to walk in the footsteps of their father and bring their stone to the building both at the Cooperage 'to the property. United by the same passion, Jean-Luc and his children work together to produce wines that look like them, authentic and rich with unparalleled expertise.

An emblematic figure of the property, this wine comes from plots on the property's plateau, with a very thin layer of arable land. Vinified in barrels of 500 liters renewed each year, this innovative process ensures a subtle marriage of fruit and wood while preserving the plot selection. Château La Rose Perrière is a wine with a full-bodied and spicy character whose time will soften the power by bringing this touch of velvet revealed by the years.

The 2018 La Rose Perrière has come together beautifully since I last tasted it.Rich, deep and sumptuous, the 2018 possesses terrific depth and density from start to finish. Inky dark fruit chocolate, licorice, spice, lavender and mentho build as this expansive, creamy Lussac-Saint-Émilion opens up over time. I would give the2018 a few years in bottle, as there is some new oak tannin that could use time to fully integrate. This is a terrific showing from proprietor Jean- Luc Sylvain.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 La Rose Perriere hits the ground running with a gorgeous perfume of Black Forest cake, ripe, juicy plums, blackberry preserves and lilacs, plus suggestions of licorice, pencil shavings, cedar chest and fragrant earth. The rich, sumptuous, full-bodied palate is still wearing a little oak, delivering ripe, velvety tannins and fantastic freshness, finishing long with loads of earth and mineral layers. Give it 3-4 years for the oak to fully marry and for the nuances to fan out, then drink it over the next 15 years or more.
