Although the history of Courvoisier is nearly a hundred years shorter than that of Martell, it is still an old-style cognac brand in France that has experienced the baptism of time. Its origins can be traced back to before the establishment of the First French Empire (1804-1815), and even Because of Napoléon Bonaparte (Napoléon Bonaparte, First Consul of the First French Republic, Emperor of the First French Empire) and Napoleon III (Charles-Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte, Charles-Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte, Second French Republic President and Emperor of the Second French Empire) is well-known in Europe, and people are still used to calling its cognac products "Napoleon Cognac".
In 1796, Emmanuel Courvoisier and his business partner Louis Gallois founded Gallois Cellars, a wine and spirits company in the suburbs of Paris. During the First French Republic, Louis Gallois had close contacts with Napoleon's military leaders. After Napoleon was crowned empress, these relationships allowed their company to obtain a license to serve wine for the palace. In 1811, Napoleon Bonaparte also visited their company in Bay. The winery in Bercy (also translated as Bercy). Rumor has it that their cognac also appeared on the HMS Northumberland (the Royal Navy ship on which Napoleon Bonaparte was exiled to St. Helens in 1815) after his defeat at the Battle of Waterloo. (Courvoisier Cognac) on the island of Lena. Since then, their Cognac product (Courvoisier Cognac) has been called "Napoleon Cognac" (Napoleon Cognac).
In 1828, Félix Courvoisier and Jules Gallois took over their father's business and opened a new company in the town of Jarnac, the heart of the Cognac region, specializing in the production of Cognac. This is also the origin of the 1828 in its logo. .
After Félix Courvoisier's death in 1866, his two nephews, the Curlier brothers, inherited the management of the company. The two opened up the market for Napoleon Cognac in the United Kingdom by virtue of their good trade relations with the United Kingdom, and thus entered the international stage. The company was also awarded the title of "Royal Supplier" by Napoleon III in 1869, establishing Napoleon Cognac's position in the French Cognac market.
In 1909, the British Simon family, who had been Napoleon cognac dealers, acquired the ownership of the company, designed the classic Napoleon silhouette as the brand logo, and successively launched the company's first core series: Napoleon (1909), VSOP (1910) and VS (1930s). Napoleon Cognac during this period was sought after by the royal families of Denmark, Britain, Sweden and other countries. During World War II, the Courvoisier company was occupied by the Germans. The then company manager, George Simon, fled from France to England and briefly "sold" the company to Georges Hubert, agreeing to return it after the war. After the end of World War II in 1945, Georges Hubert returned the company to the Simon family.
In 1964, Courvoisier was acquired by Canadian company Hiram Walker. In 1983, Courvoisier was awarded the French "Prestige de la France" and is the only Cognac house to win this award so far. A year after winning the award, Courvoisier launched Courvoisier XO, which is still recognized as a cognac to this day.
In 1987, Courvoisier was sold to Allied Lyons by Hiram Walker. Allied Lyons merged with Pedro Domecq S.A. in 1994 to form Allied Domecq. In 2005, Allied Domecq was acquired by France's Pernod Ricard. However, at this time, Pernod Ricard already owned Martell, a cognac brand with a longer history, and the main promotion was Martell. So in 2011, Courvoisier was resold to the American brand. Liquor giant Beam. In 2014, Japan's Suntory Holdings Corporation (Suntory) acquired all shares of Beam and established Bean suntory, and Courvoisier became a brand of Bean suntory.
Courvoisier X.O. Cognac undergoes a complex brewing process and is matured in hand-selected oak barrels for up to 25 years. High-quality raw wine from the large and small Champagne regions and a small amount of Baobao region has been distilled with dregs to achieve the iconic delicate and rich fruity aroma (figs, raisins, plums and candied orange peel), which progresses layer by layer, with a touch of elegance at the end. Floral.
