🏅 International Spirits Challenge 2021 Gold
The Dalmore is located on the river bank near Cromarty Firth in the Highlands region of Scotland, England. It is now managed by Whyte & Mackay Ltd. One of the most competitive Scotch Whiskey brands in the world.
Dalmore's history can be traced back to 1263, when the ancestors of Clan Mackenzie saved the life of King Alexander III of Scotland when he was attacked by a stag. In return, the King granted Clan Mackenzie the right to use the image of the royal 12-pointed deer on their coat of arms. The Dalmore Distillery was established in 1839 by Alexander Matheson. The Dalmore Distillery has stood on the banks of Cromarty Firth since its founding. By 1867, descendants of Clan Mackenzie took over the distillery and applied the Royal Stag's head emblem to The Dalmore's whiskey bottles. This logo is still in use today. It not only symbolizes the rich history of The Dalmore Distillery, but also reflects the firm determination of The Dalmore Distillery to create top-notch single malt whiskey.
Dalmore has been using its craftsmanship for more than 150 years. They believe that oak barrels are sacred, so they have always only used carefully crafted special oak barrels. Not only do these barrels have to come from the best cellars and distilleries in the world, but they have to be hand-selected by their Master Distiller, Richard Paterson. Richard Paterson is a pioneer in the art of barrel management and has been pushing the boundaries of whiskey production and the art of barrel management for more than 50 years at The Dalmore Distillery. Richard Paterson's expertise was instrumental in establishing the standards for making single malt whiskey at The Dalmore, which many whiskey makers have since followed.
Dalmore has established a cooperative relationship with the Gonzalez Byass Group (one of the most famous sherry wine groups in Spain) for more than 100 years, and the unique style of Dalmore whiskey has a very close relationship with this group. The iconic characteristics of Matusalem Oloroso Sherry, such as chocolate and willow aromas, are given by the very rare Gonzalez Byass barrels that have been used to store Matusalem Oloroso Sherry for 30 years. In addition, The Dalmore also uses some other premium casks to add a more complex flavor to their single malt whiskey.
The Dalmore 18 Year Old 2023 Edition is a distinctive, limited-release whiskey known for its sherry-infused house style. An enticing aroma of decadent milk chocolate, tangy orange, and rich coffee kicks things off. This 18-year old whisky boasts a bold palette embodied by notes of juicy raisins, exotic nutmeg, and luscious dried fruit. It was carefully matured in a mix of ex-bourbon and Gonzalez Byass Matusalem oloroso sherry casks, leaving a warm fruit-filled finish.
