One of the most intelligent young Chateauneuf du Pape turks is Laurent Charvin. As I have written before, consumers are lucky that the entire production here is now estate bottled as opposed to being sold to negociants as it was prior to 1990. I always find Charvin’s wines come closest to those of Chateau Rayas, although the Charvin cuvees are slightly more concentrated.

Domaine Charvin 創辦於1851年，但直到一個世紀之後的1951年才在 Charvin 裝下第一瓶酒，僅供家庭私人用。1990 酒莊的第6代傳人 Laurent Charvin 才開始以 Charvin 品牌銷售葡萄酒，產量僅 8000 瓶。其家族在教皇新堡（Chateauneuf-du-Pape）地區擁有約 8 公頃的葡萄園，還在羅納河谷（Cotes-du-Rhone）其他地區擁有共16公頃的葡萄園。葡萄樹的平均年齡約為45歲。收穫時，將葡萄進行分類，使用 80% 歌海娜（Grenache），15% 西拉（Syrah），其餘的由慕合懷特（Mourvedre）與凡卡絲（Vaccaese）混合而成。不除梗在混凝土罐中進行輕度壓碎和發酵，而不會產生任何脫梗現象。這種非常傳統的釀酒過程持續約三個星期以進行發酵和浸漬，然後再持續18個月，完全在混凝土罐中進行成熟。酒莊出產的葡萄酒都未曾過濾，並在標籤上標出，這一大膽的舉動有別於其他酒莊。使其葡萄酒風格純粹，帶有黑覆盆子水果味，入口即顯示出甘甜、深厚、濃縮及多層次的口感。更值得注意的是，Domaine Charve 莊園位於教皇新堡（Chateauneuf-du-Pape）北面，臨近奧利奇（Orange），這裏的土壤由黏土和石灰石構成，其潛能至今還未被完全開發出來。  葡萄園位於 Chateauneuf du Pape   北端，天氣相對涼快，Laurent Charvin 遵循最傳統原始的釀酒方法，不除梗，不過濾，100% 全程沒有用木桶，沒有任何修飾，沒任何秘密，單靠老樹，低產量 ，最少的人為干預 ，成就出只表達最純淨風土的教皇新堡佳釀。
