Born in 1937, Suntory Corner Bottle whisky has a long history. Among Suntory's many whisky brands, Suntory's founder, Mr. Nobujiro Torii, aimed to "create a Japanese whisky that is not inferior to Scotch whisky", and produced the first masterpiece, which is this Horn Bottle. The distinctive turtle-nail pattern on the outside of the bottle is inspired by the traditional Japanese glass craft of Satsuma Kiriko. It is said that the name "Kakubu" did not originally appear on the bottle's label, but was a nickname given to the bottle by fans because of its shape, until "Kakubu" evolved into the official trade name.

Suntory Hornblower is a blended whiskey made from a variety of spirits. The bourbon barrels used for blending come from Suntory's Yamazaki and Shirakushu distilleries, and are used to make bourbon whiskey. The perfectly blended Hornblower features a slightly sweet aroma and full-bodied flavor, with a dry finish that is not overly sweet.

Whisky can be drunk in a variety of ways, including neat, on the rocks, or with water as in the whisky water cut. Depending on the type of whisky, there are many different ways to taste it. The most suitable way to drink whisky from a horn bottle is to make a "horn bottle whisky soda mix" (角ハイボール／角HIGH), which is a method of drinking whisky from a horn bottle by adding soda to the whisky.
