Kanosuke Distillery, established in 2017, is affiliated to Japan's Komasa Jyozo.
Komasa Brewing Co., Ltd. was established in 1883 and is located in Kagoshima Prefecture, Kyushu. It has a history of more than 130 years. It is a traditional Japanese shochu company. Its rice shochu [MELLOWED KOZURU] is still very popular among the public and is Winner of numerous World Wine Competition awards.
The advantage of the parent company's strong financial resources is that Kanosuke, which was built with an investment of 1 billion yen, is completely different from those small but sophisticated Japanese wineries. It is completely wealthy!
The distillery has three Japanese-style distillers, each of which is different and has its own characteristics. Through the different combination of these three distillers, whiskey with various flavors can be produced, while providing richer flavors and aromas.
Kanosuke is located along Fukiagehama Beach on the west coast of Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan. It is one of the three largest sand dunes in Japan and has been selected as one of the top 100 beaches in Japan.
Not far from the white sandy beach stretching along the coast, there is the winery's wine cellar. Facing the sea, Kanosuke's wine is tainted with a slight sea breeze.
It was in this picturesque and uniquely beautiful environment that this young winery officially embarked on its journey.
Having said that, such a winery with the right time, place and people was destined to be extraordinary from its birth.
Back in 2019, Kanosuke, who was just starting out, fought his way through many new and old distilleries as a dark horse and won the honor of "Best Japanese Craft Distillery of the Year". He has become famous since then!
Kanosuke, who seems to be cheating, launched the new wine series between 2019 and 2022 - "New Pot" and "New Born" series. Winning numerous awards in the Spirits Challenge (ISC), New York International Spirits Competition (NYISC), Tokyo Whiskey and Spirits Competition (TWSC)...
Accepting foreign things, incorporating their own characteristics, and making them more refined is what the Japanese are best at. And this culture can be said to be brought to its extreme in Kanosuke’s whiskey.
The regular version of "Kanosuke Japanese Single Malt Whiskey" will be officially launched in 2023, carrying the full style and characteristics of the distillery. The raw material is unpeated barley, distilled in three pot stills, and then matured in toasted American white oak barrels that have been used to age rice shochu. After maturation, multiple barrels of raw wine are blended, and finally non-chill filtration is used to lower the alcohol concentration to 48% before bottling. The sophisticated flavor of the distillery has been fully demonstrated in the Kanosuke annual limited edition series launched in the past.
